replacing monsoon factory amp with aftermarket amp

  • I have a 2004 VW  Passat with a monsoon premium sound system, and I would like to replace the factory amp with a after market one. The problem I'm having is I don't now the wiring set-up from the head unit.If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you know if the factory head unit has RCA outputs or line outputs. Thanks for your help.
  • We have a few threads on this topic already. You will find many of them here.

Stock stereos generally do not have RCA outputs so you will need an amplifier with “speaker level inputs”, or a line output converter. With either option, you will need an amplified signal from that factory audio system. This means, you’ll need to leave the factory Monsoon amplifier in the system, and tap off the speaker leads coming out of the amp.

If you remove the Monsoon amplifier, you won’t have the amplified signal needed to provide audio to the amp out converter.

    I hope that helps.
