This spring I purchased a Nikon D60 and entered the realm of SLR photography. The camera kit came with two lenses, an AF 18-55mm Nikkor

re: Tamron AF28-300 Di VC lens -- one versatile zoom

Why does Tamron refer to this lens as a "macro" zoom - does the "macro" aspect affect landscape shots, i.e., long focal length versus short? I too am impressed with Tamron products, and really liked what this lens had to offer. I want to check out their AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro lens that we’ll be carrying for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. I hear it’s an excellent lens for macro shots and great for portraits, too. I’ll put up a post when I’ve had a chance to try it out!

The lens syncs up very well with the camera. These are fine lenses. They feel very solid and I like that they have some weight to them. (In lenses - weight is actually a sign of quality). There are no negative effects one sometimes gets with lenses in this price range. Considering that one could get a lower quality lens for a slightly lower price, the sacrifice in said quality is too great to make it worth saving a few dollars. The only other choice is lenses that cost so much you'll be forever saving for them wondering if you'll ever aquire them. The Tamron is the absolute best for its price point. I use mine 90% of the time and I'm considering getting another with a different range. While the high-end Canon lenses are nice as well, they will forever be out of reach of my budget. Having used the Tamron for a few months now, I would have to say that it is a duplicate of the higher end Canon lenses for a reachable price. Very nice lenses indeed!
