Crutchfield needs to sell the Nikon 85mm 1.8G

This question is answered

Not sure why crutchfield is still selling the old 85mm 1.8 AFD version rather than the new G version when they have pretty much updated the rest of their basic prime lenses (50mm and 28mm). In fact they just received new stock of the older version recently! What is ironic is that the new version sells anywhere else for $499 and the older version sells for $489. Also the new version certainly gets better reviews on most major review sites, and also will function with lower end DSLRs without the built in motor, whereas the older one will not in terms of autofocus. Unless they are getting the AFD versions at a deep discount from Nikon, its a no-brainer and the G version would sell like hotcakes. I know I would snatch one up right now if they offered it.

Plus I know crutchfield is not averse to updating their lenses as they are selling the relatively new 24-85mm VR lens that just came out as well as the 28mm 1.8G lens which came out within the year. I might even consider picking up the 24-85 if I feel I need a mid-range zoom for snapshots with the kids in lieu of switching primes constantly.

I also hope you guys plan on stocking the D600 if/when it comes out. That will be a big seller for certain.

  • I sent in a request to our merchandising department on the AF-S Nikkor 85mm F1.8G lens. Hopefully, they will reconsider carrying it. HTH!
