Maximum size file on a hard-disk camcorder

This question is answered

When recording on my hard disk camcorder, I noticed that it "splits" the file in two, after about 20 minutes of recording. This makes a short gap (abou 1/4th of a second) in the recording and it can be very ennoying when capturing some music or dance scenes. Are there some HD camcorders which have a different file size limit?

  • I don't know of any hard drive camcorders which will let you record an endless length file. I believe you will be limited to a set file size with any of them. Anyone have an idea?

  • There is probably also video editing software which would allow you to merge the files and eliminate the gap (well, maybe not, if it is a gap in the recording rather than a gap in playback from switching files), but it's probably better if you can avoid that as well.

    Anyone else have suggestions?
