re amps

This question is answered

i was looking for a amp today and i cam across a amp that is about 5000 watts.....so it said and 1000@4 ohms i was wondering if that would be to much power to run 2 kicker solo classics and the amp is a RE XTX-5000.1

  • Not sure what hottcakes meant  and not sure what Georgiafan11 was asking ... Huh?

Generally, I'm skeptical of amps marketed as 5000W - Lanzar does it with a lot of 250W RMS amps.

Resonant Engineering is a respected company and the amp uses a 250A fuse - should be legit or maybe a bit better and is rated at 1000W@4-ohms, 1700W@2-ohms, or 2500W@1-ohm.

Kicker makes a lot of different solo classics - the 10-inch are rated at 450W RMS each, the 12's are 600W each.  The amp would probably be fine for them with DVC-4-ohm subs at 4-ohms, but you are essentially buying a 2500W RMS amp to use about 1/3 of it's power.  (You could spend less money wiring them at 1-ohm with a Hifonics BRZ1200.1D or even a HFi1000.1D).

The other concern is the amp draws probably 100A (peak) at 4-ohms which MIGHT be a bit much on your alternator/battery.

    Hope This Helps!!!

    Anyone else have suggestions?

  • i believe your car would be near the center of that with the amp being located directly in the middle.

    don't do it.

  • @ TigerHeli

LOL, 10 replies all exactly the same. I think you got your point across. You must have no patience with computers or are having some problems with a slow connection and clicked the post button numerous times until it finally posted.

  • Not sure how that happened - I'll go back and delete the duplicate replies - I'm blaming a forum glitch, I didn't click post more than once and didn't even notice anything unusual until you replied.

  • it holds a 240 the re amp does and how do i wire it to 1 ohm see i was told not to run it like that at the place i bought them i paid about 600 for both i was going to wire them to 2 ohms but if you have a wire diagram that would be greatly appreaciated haha

Their spec page said 250A - if you are talking about the fuse size.

Hmmmn - You don't really want to run them at 1-ohm with the RE Amp, because 2500W RMS is too much for them.  You need a 1-ohm stable amp to run them at 1-ohm, but otherwise, there is no reason not to.  If they are DVC-4-ohm subs, you CAN'T wire them to 2-ohms and if they are DVC-2-ohm subs, you can ONLY wire them to 2-ohms (or 1/2-ohm or 8-ohms).

  • well the amp that i have now i dont know if it is one ohm compatable i have a qsa1000 quantum audio amp

  • Do you mean a QSA1000D? Is this it?

If so, no it's not 1 ohm stable and it's a class AB amp which looks to have 60AMPS worth of on board fuses. It'd be lucky to pump out 500RMSx1 @ 2 ohms.

  • only has one set of jacks not 3

    ???

The head unit or the amp?

    And?

  • Probably means the amp only has one set of RCA inputs, which makes sense being a mono amp. The photo I posted, while listed on a page about the Quantum QAS1000D, may not be of the actual amp oddly enough as it makes no sense for a mono amp to have two sets of inputs and one set of pass though RCAs. Still, I feel confident that the amp is by no means 1 ohm stable.

  • Manual - spanish.

Stumbled across the above.  Photos are probably the QSA4150.  Agree, amp is not 1-ohm stable - reviews imply 600-700W RMS at 2-ohms (which doesn't help the OP).

    Hope This Helps!!!

  • wel then thats wonderful cause you cant make 4 ohms 2 ohms only 8 and 1...which means like 250 300 rms.........my life sucks

  • You mean 4 and 1. They are DVC 4 ohm subs right? As for the amp only pumping out around 600RMS to the pair, sure it's far from ideal, but it's still doable. Or, you could wire up just one for the subs at 2 ohm and feed it around it's rated power handling until you can afford an amp that will feed both of them the proper power.
