ok, ive been looking for months now and i cant decide between
the infinity 120.9w or the alpine swr12d4
and is the alpine mrp m500 a solid amp to power either of these component subwoofers
What are you basing the decision on.
They are VERY different subwoofers.
The 120.9w is 350W RMS at selectable 2-ohms or 4-ohms. (I thought the selectable impedance was pretty gimmicky unless you have no idea what amp you are going to end up with or whether you want one or two subs).
The SWR12d4 is 1000W RMS DVC-4-ohm.
The MRP-M500 would be a solid choice for the 120.9W with it wired at 4-ohms (but you are essentially buying a 500W amp to power a 350W subwoofer). The amp would work for the SWR12d4, but it is 50% of the rated power of the sub, so a larger amp would be better.
Hope This Helps!!!
Anyone else have suggestions?

speakers, no amp, no subs
Ok, so my decision is based on quality, performance and durability. I want a good starter quality at least sub. That will perform beautifully for my style of music but will also last me a long time. If i were to get the alpine what would be a better amp that wont break the bank
We don't know what your bank is.
I replied to this and apparently it didn't go through.
Kicker ZX1000.1 or ZX750.1 - but they are discontinued.
so the 2 subs im up in the air about are 250
the amp im looking at currently is 200 but im willing to move that to 300 if someone recommends a better fit
plus all the wiring and enclosures and extras the total budget is 700
The Alpine 500 watt mono amp is great. You should find a DVC 4 ohm or a 2 ohm sub that handles 400-600 watts RMS, build a nice port-tuned box for it (or have it built) and be happy !
awesome thanks for your input
@GLH - He isn't looking at a 500W Alpine sub. The SWR12D4 is 1000W RMS. Now, maybe you are saying he SHOULD be looking at the SWS12D4 or the SWR-1243D and I would agree.
Confusing the way Alpine shifted everything up one level.
I never said he was looking at anything. I didn't suggest any certain sub. Re-read the post maybe.
Ermmm - True ...
