I'm helping a buddy install his sound equipment that he basically pieced together for free so of course nothing really matches correctly or is the best situation, buuuuut he wants to spend no money so heres my snag haha....
His little 2channel amp will put out 140W RMS @ 4ohms bridged and he had one 10" SVC Kicker @ 8ohms. If I run this sub to the amp and bridge the channels will it be stable and just lose power or.....?
Also, the sub handles 300W RMS so over powering will defiantly not be an issue. Any insight or experience with this kinda problem would be more than helpful. Thanks in advance guys!

The amp will run stable at 8 ohms, but the power might be halved. He might get lucky and get 75 watts out of it. Not good. If he is happy like that, be sure the amp isn't overdriven into clipping, or it can still burn out the voice coil. Be sure he knows the sub will be getting MAYBE 1 fourth the power rating of it. Doubt it will keep up with a good full range system. If he thinks the bass boost on the amp or the head will compensate, it will only introduce clipping.
Thanks for the quick response GLH, you confirmed what I was thinking as well. I also gave him the same info you gave me and said, "After I adjust the settings don't touch anything. If you want more bass or it's not "loud" enough for you, the only way to do it is a new amp."
I'll repost in a month when his amp/sup is fried from turning the sub to +10 haha.
Kennedyturning the sub to +10
Cool, just hope you realize (sure you do) bass level and bass boost are not the same. The bass level on the head (if it has it) should be up all the way before setting the gain. The bass boost should be down all the way.
What amp and sub model?
I agree with GLH, but he MIGHT get 90-100W out of the amp.
OTOH, the only Kicker subs that I can think of off-hand that are SVC-8-ohm would be a Comp, and they are 150W RMS.
Hope This Helps!!!
Anyone else have suggestions?
