Taco1019:I am curious because the specs say its 25RMS and Crutchfield reports that it produces 14RMS.
CF - 14W RMS CEA2006 compliant, which translates to 20-20KHZ at 1% THD.
Eclipse - 25W RMS at 10% THD - no frequency limit specified.
But most quality HU's will be within a watt or two of each other - equally rated.
Hope This Helps!!!

I hate to say it, but I was really disappointed by this headunit. I installed the CD5030 yesterday and replaced it with my old KDC-X791 today. The Eclipse wasn't a horrible headunit, but it has a lot (and I mean A LOT) of little quirks and hangups that pile up and ruin what otherwise would've been an awesome headunit. Within a few minutes of using it, it was also obvious that a few bugs still needed to be worked out. Besides the lack of the CD5030's 7-band parametric EQ and time alignment, I preferred my old KDC-X791 in almost every way. I'm going to start with the good: - The face plate is clean. If you want a headunit that doesn't draw a lot of attention to itself, this is one. - The display is very clear. It's very readable in sunlight, especially when compared the Kenwood. It isn't as readable at angles however. - Time alignment is adjusted by milliseconds, not by distance like a lot of other headunits. - Loads my 16GB USB drive almost instantly. Now for the bad, and there's quite a lot of it: - The face plate sticks out at least an inch from the dash. - The face plate is very loose and moves whenever you press a button. - I had to unplug and plug back in my flash drive almost every time I started my truck for it to read the drive. - Within the first five to ten minutes of using the unit, the screen glitched and the rows of text shifted downwards (bottom row was on top, top row was in the middle, etc.) - The subwoofer can not be "turned off" by the headunit. THAT SUCKS. It can only be attenuated or boosted by 6 dBs, lame. - Menus are slow and awkward. When you navigate, the selected text is wiped away, then the entire screen is refreshed. It's very strange and makes it hard to follow the selected text. - The display options were pretty limited. For example, you can only display file and folder or artist and title. The two wouldn't appear at the same time, one would scroll completely through before the other would appear. - The files and folders on the USB drive are not sorted alphabetically, that REALLY SUCKS. There is a tool called DriveSort that can work around this problem, but that's a PITA I don't want to have to deal with I'm just adding a song or so. - When navigating through you files, you don't start at the file currently playing, you start at the file you had last selected. - There was no folder structure either, it just gave you a list of all your folders in one gigantic list. - FM reception is TERRIBLE. Besides a friend's Blaupunkt, I've never used an aftermarket headunit with a tuner this poor. - Bluetooth randomly disconnects and reconnects to my phone at times. This is more than likely a problem with my POS cell phone, however. - The sound quality is not what I expected of Eclipse. My Kenwood eXcelon has much less background noise than the Eclipse. A lot of these are minor problems that wouldn't bother many people, but I'm picky and this was enough for me to sorely miss my Kenwood. The Eclipse will be on it's way back to CF shortly.

Thanks for the info I was kicking around getting the 5030. I currently have the 3200 and it also has a couple of nagging problems some of which you touched on. The bluetooth is good but not great mine somtimes disconnects also. The sub level control doesn't have enough adjustment and it's the last thing on the adjustment menu (i'll have to just plug an MTX one into my sub amp). My biggest issue is the display I can hardly read it in any light and I have 20/20 vision. It's one saving grace is that it is the best sounding HU I've ever owned and I had Pioneer, Alpine, Sony EXPLODE x2. I am not using the HUs amp so I can't vouch for that. Darn it I'd really like that 7 band EQ that was the only thing that Sony had right on theirs.
05 Silverado xtra cab, Eclipse 3200 HU, MTX 150/2 bluethunder frt., 75/2 bluethunder rear, 800/1 subs, Alpine SPX 6.5 seperates frt& rear, 2-12" Infinity reference subs in down firing sealed box, 2 farad cap, copius dynamat.
thunderstruck:- The subwoofer can not be "turned off" by the headunit. THAT SUCKS. It can only be attenuated or boosted by 6 dBs, lame.
I would say that most HU's can't turn off the subwoofer (a few can - probably Kenwood's can). You can run a toggle switch on the remote wire, but it takes away the clean look of the dash. 6dB isn't much.

DriveSort is very simple - assuming you have the program on the same PC that you are adding the songs from - takes about 5 seconds tops. (Agreed it's an added inconvenience).

I lot of those would drive me nuts as well!!!

I do have to say that Eclipse has vastly improved the screen over the previous models.

Good idea, but the problem with that is I have a four-channel amp powering both my components and the subwoofer.

That complicates things a lot. I can't verify it, but I think you could do it similar to how I run use the relay to eliminate the warning beeps on my Sony:
In your case, I think a switch to open the negative wire on the subwoofer feed would do the job. However, that requires running probably 10-gauge wiring up to the dash, and you wouldn't want to do that, so what I think you would ideally want would be a RELAY in-line with the negative subwoofer wire, with a switch on the dash to energize/de-energize the relay.
Relay de-energized = open in subwoofer negative wire = no sound from subwoofer.
It's complicated, but it would be under $10 in parts, and it could be done.
I had the CD3200, but quickly returned it in favor of my Pioneer Premier that I've had for a few years. I was hoping some of the quirks I found with the CD3200 were fixed. It sounds like you can now actually read the display when the sun is out, but I can't understand why they can only get it to display one line of text.
Here are my list of issues from the CD3200. Hopefully someone can chime in as to if they were fixed on the CD5030...
- Displayed only one line of text at a time in iPod or Sirius mode(can't see title and artist at the same time) - Couldn't turn off the animated background which made the display hard to read when it was sunny out. - I couldn't get my phone book to transfer to the unit unless I manually transferred each individual phone number. My parrot CK3100 downloads the entire phonebook when it syncs and shows me the name of who was calling automatically. This was a problem with the head unit, and not the phone itself as confirmed by Eclipse. - The iPod lets you select Artist -> Album -> Song. On the CD3200 if there is a song under the artist you just selected with a blank Album there is no way to select it on the head unit unless you find it by song name. On the iPod it at least gives you a black placeholder of some sort. I have a lot of live performances that don't have an associated album so you can't just tell it to play all songs by the selected artist like you can on the iPhone.- Overall the whole interface for browsing for music was just horrible and it sounds like they didn't spend any time improving on it.
