It seems every set of infinity's I run, I blow something, I try to run about RMSish.  I noticed a terrible sound coming from my mid bass today, BLOWN! When I was playing with the fade and balance I noticed one of the rear mid bass was not working. I have had plenty of troubles with infinity over the years, But, the perfect mid bass blowing is the last straw!

I am wondering how Alpine type X components sound or even the type R.  Anyone, wanna make some suggestions. I have using Infinity's since 2000, right now I am sitting on 4 sets with something blown. So, I think its time to let Infinity go.

The Alpine's are an excellent alternative. They provide a high level of accuracy much like Infinity, with smooth response across the frequency range. I would say they are a little more balanced with more presence in the mid-range and less brightness in the highs compared to Infinity. Neither is necessarily better than the other, more or less just a personal preference thing. Also, they are quite reliable and we do not see many of them come back blown when used properly. Both the Type-R's and Type-X's are excellent, with the Type-X providing a slightly more accurate response with an increase in power handling.

Well, I had pulled these perfects out out of the basement to run an ohm test on them, after reading bout bad xovers.  The mid-bass is not blown!  I just happen to put my fingers in the basket and puss up on the cone and pop and cone stuck up, pushed it down and pop again. I looked at the underside of the cone pushed it up and down again, I noticed the spider was coming apart from the cone and bending. I am gonna attempt to save these speakers with some adhesive. Any suggestions? Also, one of the xovers is bad. I will use the xovers from my bad ref.  set or buy actives.

My love affair with the sound of infinity, I ended up buying 2 sets of kappa components. LOL I have one set installed, I wanna glass my doors to fit in the 2nd. If I get the perfects fixed, I will use them for rear fill.  I was thinking about glassing the rear deck too, make them perfects shine. lol

sad to hear about your downfall with infinity. i have 2 sets of perfects in my front, 6.5 no tweet in the doors, 5.25 in the kicks with tweeters. knock on wood i've had them for 3 years no problems. they are setup as a true 3-way comp set using my alpine sound processor. if they ever go, i will be updrading to hybrid audio.
