I'm a new crutchfield user and I have to be perfectly honest. Where has this site been my entire life? Now on to the big questions.
I've lived with the factory system in my car since I bought it thinking I wouldn't miss it. However, as an avid music lover it left ALOT to be desired. Now that I've gotten a better job and have a little more play money I've decided it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for a few opinions on my choices.
Head Unit: JVC KW-AVX810. I've found this product on a few other sites but I think Crutchfield will serve me best. With everything that's included and most importantly the custom install instructions and the support. I know full well going in that replacing the head unit on a Cobalt is a tragedy all in itself so before I purchase I do have a few questions.
1. How big a job is this? I have a handful of car stereo installations under my belt but nothing in the DoubleDin area. 2. I'm coming up short on info for the PAC GM C2R-GM11B will this adapter allow me to keep all of my warning chimes AND my driver information center(05 Cobalt without Onstar without Pioneer system)?
Front Speakers: Sony XSGTX1640 6.5-Inch Coaxial 4-Way Speakers.
Rear Speakers: Sony XSGTX6930 6x9-Inch Coaxial 3-way Speakers These are already installed. Boy was that a pain wish I had known about this site sooner.
Amplifier: Kicker 08ZX300.1
Subwoofer: Kicker CompVR 07CVR124
1. Is this a good combination? My friend has 2 kicker comp's in his Grand Prix and they sound awesome. I'm content with 1. Just wanting to make sure I have a good amp to power it.
Thanks in advance for all hints and tips. My biggest concern is getting the best system for around $1000 that doesn't interfere with the stock functions of my car. I know this won't be an easy install but I'm confident I can handle it Tips for installing a system in a Cobalt will be greatly appreciated

1) There is no reason you would not be able to install it, while using the free gear from CF.
2) If you do not use the PAC Module, you are going to be royally screwed. it would be a complete pain in the *** to install without.
3) Kicker is going to be the best bet and I would upgrade to the ZX400.1
4) The cruise control will not be affected by the Module. Now, if you have steering wheel controls for your stereo, you would need to find ones compatible, if you still wanted to use them on your after market stereo. The Gm PAC would allow for this.

Well,
1) HU install, piece of cake. Easier than hell with the Gm interface.
2) interface allows for complete retention of chimes, warnings, etc. Pain in the *** without.
3) Great Sub. Always been a kicker fan. Type of enclosure?
4) Amp running 2 Ohm, little underpowered still. Could use

2. So I def need the PAC module? I've heard conflicting reports about what I do and do not need.
3. Yeah I was really impressed with the Kicker subs, In my old system I had a sony xplod and it was good at the time but im looking for alittle bit more
4. So I should upgrade to the ZX400.1?

2) You can install it without the PAC module, but you would have to hard-wire it to the fuse box, and you would lose On-Star and the Warning chimes, and need a different interface for the SWC. The install is MUCH easier with it. I am not sure if the DIC is retained, but I don't see anything saying it would not be, so I'm assuming it is.
3) Kicker ZX300.1 is rated at 300W and likely does more and the sub is rated for 400W and likely takes more. That's 75% of RMS and CF recommends at least 70% so it will work fine. The ZX400.1 or the Alpine MRP-M500 would likely be better.
