From Crutchfield's description page of the CDA 9886:  http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0STwbHoMKBI/p_500CDA9886/Alpine-CDA-9886.html?tab=detailed_info

... The unit can be used with the following iPod models - iPod mini (1st, 2nd generation), iPod nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation), Fourth generation iPod photo, Fifth generation iPod video, iPod classic (80, 120, 160GB) and iPod touch (1st, 2nd generation)

...

Note: The Full Speed cable will not charge the iPod nano 4th generation or iPod touch 2nd generation...

It's a charging issue.  However... there is a device called the "Scosche PassPORT IFWA" which will charge your iPod touch  as it plays, costs $28:  http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142IFWA/Scosche-passPORT.html?search=Scosche+PassPORT+IFWA&tp=122&tab=review#tab

Speaking of the iPod touches, when is the 3rd generation expected to come out?   My son was wanting one for his birthday which is next January and I wanted to wait until the next generation comes out.
