Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I am trying to remove the factory stereo out of my 2003 Ford Escape. I have a pair of DIN removal tools and I am still unable to get the stereo out. I understand how they work, but I have a feeling that there may be something wrong with the left side spring bracket (broken maybe?) that is locking the stereo in place. I can feel the right side click into place and it feels like it is unlocking ok, but the left side doesn't feel right. When I slide in the DIN tool on the left side, there is no resistance whatsoever, so I'm unable to unlock that side. Anyone have this problem before??? Is there any other way to remove the stereo. I have taken apart most of the surrounding dash parts around the stereo. I don't want to remove the entire dash. Please help! Thanks in advance!
What I did on one car was marked with electrical tape how far in the tool went to disengage the good side - it can be tough to know the correct depth sometimes.
I doubt the spring would break and still hold the radio in, but if all else fails you might need to remove some of the dash to see that side of the radio.
Hope This Helps!!!

I had the same problem in my Ford truck. I just inserted further and squeezed harder and spread out harder and it finally slid forward. Not saying it will work for yours, but I hope so.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've tried that myself. I've been messing with this for quite sometime now. Quick question though, did you notice anything wrong with the side springs after you removed the stereo? Were they damaged at all? Like I mentioned before, I have a feeling that the spring is somehow damaged/malfunctioned. Thanks.
I tried the tape trick earlier today. Still couldn't get it to work. I guess last option is to disassemble the dash. Oh well. Thanks for the quick response.
I was afraid to pull too hard at first, then I jerked hard and it edged out some on the difficult side, then I just kinda pulled with my fingertips on that side while still using the tool. Sorry yours is such a pain, mine was too.
