what guage speaker wire would you guys recomend for a 500-600 W RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms? it won't be more than 6 feet from my amp to my subs (330 W RMS each)
thanks!
12 gauge speaker wire. The kind that have the 2 leads seperately jacketed and twisted together paired inside another jacket. Low noise, interference, etc.

This raises another issue regarding speaker wire, impedance, etc.
1 for the pros here to contemplate.
Whenever I am cutting my wires to run from amp to speakers, I measure the length I need to run to the speaker furthest from the amp, then cut both or all 4 wires the same length. My logic here is that I don't want the longer speaker wire raising the total impedance (ohms) more than a much shorter run to a closer speaker would. I want all the speakers to recieve as close to the same power as possible and to sound as close to the same as possible.
Am I being nonsensical, or too OCD, or both ???
It depends. If it's only a foot or two, it doesn't matter. Regardless of what you do, we don't live in a perfect world. Even two sections of the same speaker wire from the same roll can have slightly different impedances (ex: .035 and .031). This slight change in impedance will change the power to each speaker by a little bit. The same holds true for the speakers. One might have 4 ohms impedance exactly and one might have 4.01 ohms impedance. It's not enough to matter.
You should ideally keep the wires as short as possible, to lower the resistance and decrease the chance of interference.
But don't mind me, I'm no expert.

Makes perfect sense to me. Obsession is exactly what it takes to go from good to great audio, so i think you're in the right frame of mind
I am definitely obsessed with car audio.
