I just got rid of my Cox cable box and reduced my service to Basic Cable, so now the coax goes right into the back of my Sharp LCD. That is fine except that all my other video sourced come in thru a HDMI single connector switched by my Denon receiver... and that means that I have to manually select 'Input' on the TV to switch between the coax and the single HDMI in.

This causes a problem with my third party remote because it cant detect where the TV Input is set to at any given time, therefore it cant switch between HDMI In and Coax In.. it doesnt know where to start. There are 4 HDMI In ports on the TV so the remote is helpless.

So, my question is, absent a cable box, is there any way to convert the coax cable signal to HDMI or other format so I can feed it to one of the ports on the receiver and switch it like the others ? Will a TiVo box do that ?

I am not trying to save money, I got rid of my cable box because of poor service from Cox Cable.

Hello unclejay and welcome to the Crutchfield forums!

I do tend to agree with upgrading your remote if you aren't looking for the services Tivo provides. As for a remote, I recommend checking out the Logitech Harmony models. However, if Tivo is a service you are interested in,  most of their units do offer HDMI outputs. However you will need to use a Cable Card from Cox Cable for this to work. Another reason to upgrade your remote.

Hope this helps!

There are discrete input codes for Sharp tv's available at remotecentral.com. If your remote can have codes downloaded to it you are home free. If not there are many out there that can. Changing remotes is a better solution than messing with an external tuner and inserting more junk into the signal path.

I wish I could verify my own posts. It would make me feel so...smart.

There is indeed some potential for abuse here.

I will tell you that I personally use the "Verify Answer" button as a Filter - I tend to read my discussions and then Unanswered posts, so if a thread is verified I don't have to see it each time I search for things to help people with.

Personally, I don't like Verifying my own answers unless I am 100% certain - always the chance that someone will know more than me (Did I just type that???) - and even then, if someone else had the same content, I usually give them the credit and then just add a few clarifications if needed.

I do sometimes self-verify, with the understanding that if I did flub up or the OP needs more info, they can always click the "Mark as Not Answer" button.

Hope This Helps!!!

Thanks for the response. I find your posts to be very informative and to the point. I think the forum is an excellent resource in general,  I have certainly learned a lot and  I hope I have helped people out a bit.

I have no problem with offering products as solutions (that's just good business).  I made the comment in this case because l think that a verified answer should be more than "I agree" followed by a product recommendation. Generally speaking, though, I think the moderators and admins do a fine job.

Gray area - if "I" were in Lucy's shoes (which would be weird, but ...) - I probably would have marked your reply as the answer and then hers also, but then you have two green boxes at the top of the thread, and that can confuse the OP and others, so ...

I see what you mean.

I gotta say, though, that any discussion of you in Lucy's shoes belongs on another forum. Ick!
