The car adapter for my old FM transmitter for my iPod Nano broke over the weekend.

It's probably repairable, but I'd rather take the opportunity to just get a new receiver so I can use my iPhone in the car.  I've been meaning to do it since I got the iPhone, figure it's a better quality option than getting an FM transmitter, & not TOO much pricier, just have been too cheap/lazy to do it until now.;)

So was wondering if anybody had any recommendations since there aren't too many recent threads here on the subject.  From what I've read here charging on the iPhones is an issue on some decks, hopefully not so much anymore since those were older threads.

Thanks!

I thought this might be the case ...

The 1997 Sunfire is extremely depth limited - in fact, if you look at the mounting kit, the kit is designed to protrude a few inches out from the dash just to allow the radios that are listed to fit.

Any of Ninja1283's suggestions should work fine though.

Hope This Helps!!!

In my experience, Alpine HUs have had the best/fastest/easiest iPod navigation built into their newer units. Depending on you budget, you should be able to find something that will work for you. Pioneer is also a good brand for quality HUs with good ipod navigation.

Anything above CDA-9886 or any of the iDA series have built in iPod controls. The CDA-105 has built in iPod controls, but requires the purchase of an additional adapter to work with an iPod. As far as Pioneer goes, anything above the DEH-2100IB will handle iPod controls (I would recommend the 4000/4100 or higher.)

If you have any specific features or price point that you are looking for I could narrow the list down for you.

When I enter the info about my car into the Outift My Car page ('97 Pontiac Sunfire), it returns the iDA-X200, X303, & X305.  The 200 & 303 would be in the range I'm looking to spend.  (<$200)  Neither of the Pioneers that come up (KEH-P2030 & P4020) have iPod integration.:(

I'm also looking for something that would work with the stock speakers without an amp, which doesn't look like an issue with the Alpines.

Thanks for the input.

All of the HUs you listed are under $200, and the iDA-X200 is under $150.

Was the <$200 a typo, or am I missing something here?

If you are looking for something under $150, the Pioneer DEH-2100IB, DEH-P3100UB and DEH-P400UB all fit the bill, and have built in iPod controls. They are slightly deeper than the Pioneer HUs you listed but should fit with a little bit of work. (Can anyone verify?)

Additionally, you might want to take a look at the Kenwood KDC-MP342U. Although the USB port is on the front of the HU, it does work with the iPhone and seems to be pretty solid. (I had two Kenwood HUs before my current Alpine, and liked them both. The latter Kenwood is still being used in one of my friend's car.)

Yeah, I was looking at the mounting stuff yesterday & saw that it sticks out an inch.  Wonder how bad something that's NOT listed when I plug in my model will stick out.

& I was reading the reviews on the 2 Alpine units in my price range, & both of them mention having problems playing songs off of the iPhone.:(

I doubt something that's not listed could be easily installed.  (You could usually cut the subdash and bolster it and make it work, but I can't recommend that, and I haven't seen the actual vehicle.)
