Pioneer AVIC-X910BT Time / Date setting

Just installed a X910BT nav unit. When set to automatic time zone update unit shows central time instead of eastern time. Time zone can be set in manuaul mode, however the unit then has conflictings times shown and does not comput correct arival or travel times. The times compute as if it is on central time. This unit has a date format setting under regional menu but I have not found a place to input the date.

Is there a place to input the date?

 How does this unit know when to use daylight savings time?

Is ther a place to set date on other AVIC units?

Hey Lancer 28,

It sounds like you may have a defective unit. Since you purchased it from Crutchfield, give technical support a call at the number on your invoice and they can troubleshoot further or guide you in getting a warranty repair or replacement.

I can't say for sure, but I would assume the unit gets date, time, and DST info from the GPS satellite - the thing I can't answer is why it is in the wrong time zone.

I agree that this unit will get it's information from the GPS settings. Try going into your menu and switching the setting for DAylight Savings Time. It's it is on, turn it off. If it is off, then turn it on and see if that doesn't reset it and fix the problem.

This auto timezone problem is going to send this Vietnam vet (with mental issues) over the edge. I may have to drink a whole bottle of wineSuper Angry.

Where is the setting for DST? I have not found a setting for it.

I don't see it either - Page 143 says you can turn auto-correct off and adjust the time by 1-hour, but I think that would give you the same problems as manually entering the time.

I probably should update on what I have tried to fix this problem.

Crutchfield sent another unit that seemed to have the same problem. Tx for the loaner.

So it is a problem with the installation, the operator, or software in the unit.

I have been able to confirm that the date setting is correct by looking at track logs. I have driven past timezone hill aprx 60 miles west of home base. About a 1 mile east of timezone hill the unit sets itself to EST then to CST 1/2 mile after the time change sign post. On return trip it sets to EST 1 1/2 mile east of the sign post for about 1/2 mile then goes back to CST.  I have tried this twice.

I can not think of any thing with the installation that would cause this problem. The revers sense wire is not connected yet. All else is up and running. All other features of the unit appears to work ok. I have not tried the backup cam yet.

I could very well be missing a menu selection, but I do not know where. I would love to have someone point out the errors of my finger punching. I have reset / restored / deleted user data and restarted a number of times with no joy.

I have looked on the AVIC411.com site. There were some issues of DST because of congress changing the dates for DST on/off but no issues similar to mine. At least I could not find any.

If the manual time is set 1 hour ahead, then the auto time is correct but still shows CST. I think the time calculations are also correct in this configuration. However this has to be done every system start up.

Is this something that is mainly happening when you are driving around on the time zone line? I can see the accuracy being off enough so that it could potentially think you are on one side when you are actually on the other.

Where is the GPS antenna located? While i have seen plenty of cases where up on the dash seems to work, I have to say that for optimum results, getting it on the roof would be the best thing to do.

Do you have the VSS wire connected? If this isn't connected and you are getting sketchy GPS signal from the satellite, there is a large potential for there to be time/distance inaccuracies.

The VSS wire is attached per Crtchfields wiring / connector sheet. I would not think this would cause a timezone problem. The sat signal is strong with seven green most of the time.The ant was on the trunk lid but have moved it to the inside rear deck along with the xm ant. Both seem to work just as well there.

If the sat receiver gives me valid position data I would think it should be able to set the correct timezone.

There were some posts on the AVIC411 board about bad timezone, but did not see any solutions.

Overall the nav works well.

You said earlier you are 60 miles from the time zone line, but for Shawn - the problems you are experiencing are around town as well, not just when you drive to the next time zone, correct?

Cool idea!  (I was never a fan of hockey pucks on the trunk lid either).  Thanks for sharing.

The timezone is off all the time. I have even driven 100 miles or more further East and it insists  on being CST. It does jump an hour ahead just before Timezone Hill headed West. Crazy thing. I can live with the hour difference, but would be nice to have it correct.

There's no other settings that are going to let you fix this. It's either a software issue that Pioneer hasn't made us aware of, or it's a problem specific to your unit and may require sending it to Pioneer for service. There's just nothing else I know of that will make any difference.

For now I just let it have it's own way. Just add an hour to the time displayed. Super Angry
