I installed this in my 2002 CRV and everything worked sweet.  The iPod worked great and the XM worked perfectly.  A couple months later, the XM stopped appearing as a source option on the HU.  I pulled it out and found the fuse holder broken and the fuse missing.  I replaced and it started working again.  A week or so later, same problem.  So pulled it out again and could not see anything wrong with it but I went ahead and pulled the XM stuff out and reconnected thinking maybe a connection was bad.  Hooked it back up and it worked great... for about a week.

I went out and bought a new XM wiring kit and replaced.  Again, worked great for a couple weeks and then vanished from the HU.  I am at a loss now.  The only thing that I can think of is that right before this happened, I removed the faceplate from the HU.  It seems like it is some kind of power interruption and my next step is to just disconnect the battery and try it again.

Could I be looking at a general ignition problem?  I have not been able to find anyone else who has had this same problem.  The previous Alpine I had worked fine with the XM so I am not sure why I would suddenly be having any issues.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One thing to note is that the CNPALP1's 6 foot yellow wire needs to be hardwired to your Alpine head unit's yellow wire using the supplied in-line 1-Amp fuse wire extension. Just wanted to make sure you did this. If not, try rewiring it this way and see what happens.

Could you clarify a bit what is occuring?

What size fuse is in the system?

Missing?  (It blows, or it physically falls out of the holder).

It it a plastic ATO-style fuse, mini-ATO style fuse, or a glass or ceramic fuse?

If the fuse holder is falling apart, you could try a different style.  If the fuse is falling out, you could also try a different style fuseholder.  If the fuse is undersized for the wiring (and perhaps not the only fuse for the device), you could try a higher-amperage fuse.  If the fuse is max amperage, you may need to trouble-shoot the wiring.

Hope This Helps!!!

It was the fuse holder for the power to the XM box.  I replaced it and it has been working fine.

On a whim (and thinking I am dealing with some kind of power issue) I opened the hood of the car and actually disconnected the battery and then reconnected, got back into the car and turned on the HU and the XM was working again.

So, I am not sure what this means.  Do I have an ignition problem somewhere that is requiring me to have to reset the HU or is this a problem with the HU?

Suggestions?

Poor connection/corrosion at the battery - hard to say - could be a lot of things - at this point, I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again.

Well, it happened again.  I am going to have to check out the ignition system I guess.

Two things - I think there have been past posts with Alpine where the Sirius unit had to have power before the head unit and a PAC TR-7 was used to delay the HU turn-on - you might search for that.

Also - you have an electrical problem, not an ignition problem - ignition is the spark plugs, wires (if applicable), coil packs, or DIS modules, or distributor cap, distributor, rotor or hall effect sensor, or going far enough back - points and condenser.  That can cause popping noises through the radio, but not units failing to power up.  (Not that that matters).

Hope This Helps!!!
