Hey zglus,

There is no right or wrong answer here. One type of enclosure is not universally better than the other. Instead, they are both options that provide different sonic characteristics. A sealed enclosure for example is designed to maximize the clarity and accuracy of a driver, as well as provide a bit further range in the frequency response. The sound characteristic is also generally tight and punchy. A sealed enclosure also has the added advantage of needing less internal cubic airspace (volume range determined by sub manufacturers specs). The one downside to a sealed enclosure is that it is less efficient. This means the sub has lower output (decibels) per watt than a more efficient ported enclosure design, which brings us to the advantages of ported enclosures. Ported enclosures are not as accurate, tight or punchy in their sonic characteristic as a sealed enclosure, however the "loose" response tends to ride bass notes a bit longer. Even though this is not traditionally considered sonically accurate, some people certainly prefer this sound based on their own personal taste.

Hope that helps!
