setup: alpine 9887, 6 channel and mono amps, 3 ways up front (5.25 coaxials and 8 midbass), 6x9s, and a sub
my 2 reasons for getting a dsp are the crossover that can do bandpass for my mids and a professional grade eq to accompany my Imprint
my choices thus far are the Audio Control DQXS, Pioneer DEX-9, or the Rockford 3sixty.2
anyone have strong opinions or can help me decide?
Alpine 9887 Auto EQ
JLAudio 5.25s Alpine 6x9s Polk Audio MM12
Rockford 95w x4 Rockford 350w x1 Stinger 0 Gauge
I cannot speak for all three, but I do know the Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.2 and the AudioControl DQXS models. I think the AudioControl DQXS will be the better solution as it has stereo outputs for mids and its ability to have the output levels adjusted for fine tuning with any amp out there.
Anyone have other thoughts?

so i assume that when you mean to "accompany my Imprint" that means you have used the setup software and mic available for the cda-9887? or did you just setup the radio with HPF and basic tuning options? the imprint software should do just about anything you could ask for. from what i remember and just read about the DQXS it sounds like an external version of the imprint processor built into your radio (assuming you are using the KTX-100EQ software package. then again...just my .02

yeah i have the imprint setup... its not amazing by any means - cool but not amazing
i want to be able to shut it off and still have a tuned system instead of a straight-out-of-the-box sound
plus if i have a DSP tuned - the imprint will be that much more accurate and can fix smaller issues that it wouldnt have been able to focus on without a pre-tuned dsp (i mean come on... it only has 500 points of eq adjustment : P )

Oh I have a lot of strong opinions alright, but not sure if I can help you decide, lol.
I don't get the mention of the DEX-P9, that is a head unit. Why would you use that in combination with the Alpine HU you have? Or did you mean you would get rid of the Alpine and go with the Pioneer? The DEX-P9 would also have to be paired with the DEQ-P9 to get what you're after. And frankly, I would recommend going with the P9 combo over the Alpine paired with the DQXS or the 3sixty.2. Why? Well because the DQXS and 3sixty.2 are both DSPs, sure. But they are only going to be getting an analog signal from the Alpine HU. So these processors will do an A/D on the input signal (re-digitising it), then they will perform the crossover/EQ in the digital domain, and then convert back to analog for your amps. Of course your Alpine is already doing this from the source material (and there is even one more A/D in there if you started with radio or another analog source), so in the end you're going through too many conversions IMO. To me, that is overprocessing.
The 3sixty.2 is also aimed mainly at OEM/factory systems as well, not for use with aftermarket gear which can do the same things for less money. This is just my personal opinion here, but the 3sixty.2 in particular is overpriced garbage. It's a rip off for people that like to keep their factory gear because of silly things like "looks" that are looking at paying auto-maker prices for stereo upgrades anyway. I.e. if you see the price of some of the "premium" factory sound systems out there, a $700 processor doesn't seem so bad. But when you look at what the 3sixty.2 does and then look at the pricetag, from an aftermarket perspective? Well then your likely response is simply "WTF?!?" LOL. Okay the processor can do a lot, I'm not denying that, but it seems this is more for people that "think they need it" rather than people that actually benefit from everything it does/can do. I.e. there are much lower priced alternatives to get to the result most people are probably after. Now if you really need what this processor does and know everything about it, then okay, but otherwise I would stay away.
The DQXS is fine really but again I think it's overprocessing given what you're going to do. Processors like this are really purpose-specific and though you could certainly add it to your existing Alpine system, I would prefer to keep all the processing done at once rather than go through one set of processing, get converted to analog, then re-digitised (likely with upsampling, etc.) then pass through more processing, and then finally get to what you want.
If you use the P9 combo, everything happens in the digital domain from the get go (except analog sources which would go through an A/D of course) and then pass through the D/A for the analog signal to your amps. A neat all-in-one digital-domain solution where you control everything from the comfort of your driver's seat, right from the HU. No PDAs necesary (as with the 3sixty), no going in the trunk or wherever it's mounted for adjustments or using ugly wired add-on displays (for the DQXS), etc. You know the ol' KISS method?
Of course that's just one of my strong opinions, heh. You're free to do what you want to.

Generally agree, but there are a few isolated cases where it makes sense - i.e. cars with digital climate controls built into the radio, or funky shaped dashes with no adapter kit, or factory nav systems with voice recognition, etc.

oh cummon tiger dont hold back lol
lemme know what you think?
You mean XTRProBoy - I don't have strong opinions on it - but his reply made a lot of sense to me!!!

no i mean YOU haha
but now i'm actually going with the DEX-P99RS so the "add-on DSPs" are out of the question lol
