Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I couldn't find an appropriate forum to discuss sales, and policy.
I purchaced a KENWOOD DNX5120 ust about a year ago with the 4yr extended warranty thru Crutchfield. Within the first year it was repaired 2x. The second time, they (Kenwood) deemed in a lemon and swapped it out with a new unit.
The new radio is a KENWOOD DNX5140. Obviously a different model with a different serial number.
My question is simple, Has anyone ever had this happen and if so what happens to my extended warranty? WIll it be honored since it's not the same unit?
I've lost the number for the company who administers the warranty and my hours are such that I can not call during regular busness hours.
Any experience from anyone? I sure hope I didn't lose my warranty, and the money I paid for it.
broderp, in cases such as these the extended warranty from Service Net is transferable to the new unit. You will want to contact them, and they will advise what documentation they will need from the warranty process through Kenwood to verify and switch over the coverage to the DNX-5140. You can reach them at 866-525-2457.
I hope that helps! Let us know if we can be of any assistance.
You can always call the CF 800 number and verify with an advisor.
I would assume the warranty would continue for the remainder of the 4-years, but it REALLY depends on the fine print in the warranty contract. I have known items like Craftsman and Snap-On tools with a lifetime warranty where the product could be replaced multiple times. I've also known a few items with a lifetime warranty where after the item was replaced once the company said "We honored the warranty on the original product which lifetime now ended and you are on your own", or items where the return shipping under the warranty was more than the cost of the item so it really didn't mean anything.
Hope This Helps!!!

Essentially, I would argue that the warranty is on the stereo system that you purchased and the fact that Kenwood replaced it with a different model is irrelevant.
It is similar to me to if I purchased a car at the end of the model year and it has a 36,000 mile warranty and the door lock failed at 24,000 miles and was replaced with a different part number - I would expect to have 12,000 miles of coverage on the new door handle.
I hope this goes smoothly, because I only got a phone call from Kenwood (actually I called them to check on my radio after a month of being gone) and one brief email stating they were exchanging it due to its irratic behavior. The new radio came with absolutely NO paperwork!!
I will give them a call, thank you!
Check with ServiceNet first and find out what you need and then call Kenwood and explain ServiceNet requires this documentation to honor the extended warranty.
I think we jump through this hoop too often, but if Kenwood stalls on providing the required paperwork - tell them that without the paperwork, your extended warranty will be voided, causing you a loss of usage and damages of the purchase price of the warranty and your attorney has advised that it might be a good idea to file a class-action lawsuit on behalf of all the other owners with extended warranties that will not be able to honor them if Kenwood fails to comply.
Or maybe not ....
