I can't see what the difference is.  (The manual is DRY reading) anyone here know the differences other than model number?

Thanks.

Aside from what has already been mentioned previously, the only other differences I'm aware of are updates to the firmware, processing speed and mapping.

I looked it over briefly, figuring the difference would probably be in the pre-amp section.  I thought one might be 2 volt and the other 4 volt.  That wasn"t the case, but i noticed on the 5140 the rear pre-amp can be switched to sub.  Hardly a remarkable difference, if indeed that's the only improvement.

The 5120 also has the rear pre-amp switchable from SUB to REAR.

I'm starting to think there either is no difference or the differences are in the firmware or software and not documented in the manuals.

Not enough in my opinion to be called a new model.... Does anyone from Crutchfield know the differences?

I compared the HOR tab and the specs tabs from CF's info on the two units and most of the differences were inaccuracies on CF's part.  The only thing that really jumped out at me was CF listed the 5120 as having 4 selectable button illumination colors and the 5140 as having about 10 plus user-variable.

You might do better asking Kenwood what the differences are, but sometimes it is just a firmware update or even just a change to denote a newer year model.

Hope This Helps!!!

I think I will (contact Kenwood), the description on CF leave a lot to be desired.  My old 5120 also have infinate adjustable colors like the 5140, I'm really starting to think there is no differnece!

Important point that I forgot to consider, Malcolm!!!!

A firmware change could make the unit never play the same song twice in Random Mode or load a 4GB drive in 2 seconds rather than 30 seconds (likely would need internal memory/processor changes for that one but) ...

Bottom line is the unit could be SIGNIFICANTLY improved in performance without ANY cosmetic or functional changes or anything that would likely be mentioned in an owner's manual.

Thanks for the info!!!!

I notice a few minor differences, like a hourglass during recalculating in GPS mode, seems like a few things are either moved or not there (just feels different looking thru setup menues).  The biggest thing I do notice is it does seem faster at booting, reading my USB and in general use and operation.  All can be attributed to the firmware update I bet.   The software is 2.5.XX.  Different than what was on my 5120.
