Good morning, I have a Sony STR-DE897.  From the looks of it there are the

speaker wire connections and the rca input connections.

The speaker connections for the surround sound does have the center and the 2 satellite but it wont 'sense' the them.  Or maybe i just keep failing to find the right set-up so that the receive is sending signals to all the speakers.  Do I need to use the RCA input to use the Multi-channel option?

thanks

You don't need to use the muli-channel inputs but you do need to be sure of the folling.

  • Make sure all of the speaker channels are activated. (Page 18-19)
  • Make sure you are selecting a surround decoding mode.
  • Run the Test Tone and set the speaker levels.

If you run the test tone and don't get sound after being sure those channels are turned on in the menu, then you either have a bad receiver or bad speakers/wires for those channels. (The second possibility is the least likely)

If you get sound when running the test tone, everything is operating normally and you need ot recheck the surround mode you are using.
