As I try to decide what to do about my display issue (separate thread) I’m considering these two Alpine units.

Alpine CDA-105

Alpine iDA-X303

I don’t need a CD player and my main concern is HD radio reception and overall sound quality.  Any difference between these two units in those two categories?  Any other thoughts or experience with either?

Thanks!

The Alpine CDA-105 and IDA-X303 are very similar except the CDA-105 offers a couple more watts per channel. The Alpine IDA-X303 has a 24-Bit DAC which translates to better sound quality.  As for the HD radio option, both models use the same add-on HD tuner, the TUA-T550HD.

Hope that helps!

Here is a comparison of different Alpine units.

Personally, I wouldn't be without a CD player - just in case someone wanted to play a CD in the car and I didn't want to tell them my expensive system couldn't handle it.

If I was sure I would never miss CD, I would go for the IDA-X305 with color album art - but that's $100 more and might not work with your display issue.

Between the CDA-105 and IDA-X303, it comes down really more to whether red or blue looks better in your dash and whether you want the jog-wheel for iPod interface.  (Personally, I didn't think the CDA-105 looks as good as some other Alpine receivers when seen physically).  You might also consider the CDA-103BT (same price - adds Bluetooth - display looks better than 105 (IMHO), USB port is on front with flimsy cover - which is a drawback to me).

Hope This Helps!!!
