I am looking to get KICKER 08DS12L74 subs and a KICKER 08ZX1500.1 amp. Wondering if these are a good setup and if i'll need a capacitor or anything to go with it?

Thanks

Those subs and amp are good choices separately, but do not pair well together. The enclosure has an overall impedance of 4ohms, and that amp only outputs 750W RMS @ 4ohms, or about half the sub's rated value. If you paired the KICKER 08ZX1500.1 with the KICKER 08DS12L72 (the L7 loaded enclosure 2ohm version) you would be much better off.

What vehicle is this going to be installed in? Are there any other audio upgrades? You will need 1/0 gauge wire, and possibly a capacitor. Depending on the vehicle and other installed amps, you should be fine with the stock alternator. Definitely go with 1/0 gauge wire, and upgrade the Big Three. If you are still getting dimming, you can add a cap. General rule of thumb is 1 ferad per 500W, or ~3F in your case.

It will be going in a 2001 Pontiac sunfire. All I have for audio upgrades are a panasonic aftermarket CD player.

Sunfires come with 105 amp alternators stock, so you will probably be pushing it with the 1500 - 2000W RMS draw of the Kicker. Definitely upgrade the Big Three to 1/0 gauge, and go from there. If you still have dimming, add a 3F cap.
