What is entailed in installing speakers in the doors of a 94 Silverado 1500?  Are there holes in the metal allready or do I have to cut the metal and the panel?

I think your truck has 4x6 speakers in the dash and behind the seat. It does not have speakers in the doors. It is not an easy task to fabricate mounting holes for them. You can get kickpanel speaker mounts that will facilitate better speakers. Here are some 4x6 examples that would work well with headunit power. Hopefully you have an aftermarket headunit that has highpass settings. These little speakers do not reproduce bass well at all.

Something like this might work if you have the budget and the right seating arrangement -

These kickpanel enclosures come in several colors and allow you to mount 6.5" component speakers. Installing well matched component speakers and an amp will get you some great sound and lots better bass response than the 4" speakers. Might save you from wanting a subwoofer even.

Good luck.

Ok, so it looks like my best option is a head unit upgrade and upgrade all four 4x6s and add a sub for the low end.  A powered sub woofer looks to be a lot more economical than custom kick panels.

Thankyou for the links.
