Hi all,
My son's '02 Focus has a Alpine MRP F250 that appears to stay on all the time, even when the car is off.
Once the car is started and the stereo is turned on, the amp shuts down. If the stereo is off, the amp stays on. I can hear the speakers "bump" just as the stereo turns on...
Any idea what I'm chasing? Bad amp?
The subwoofer is gone so I'm just dealing with the four factory speakers. Do I even need the amp anymore??
Any advice is appreciated.
Since we have not heard back from the OP in over a half month, I'm going to assume this one was resolved. Marking as verified.
That amp is not a sub amp. It is a 4 x 40 watts RMS amp usually used for 4 full range speakers. It is hooked up wrong for sure, sounds like. It might be too much for the factory speakers. It would be great to replace the factory speakers with some nice full range speakers so you can use the amp.
It is a nice little amp. Specs and link to owners manual here -

Here are speakers you might like that will work well with that amp -

I'm a bit confused by exactly what you are running and what is going on.
Are you still using the factory head unit?
Is the amp driving the four factory speakers? If not, is anything connected to it?
What are you using for the remote, power, and ground connections and what size wiring to the amp?
It's a nice amp, but it should not stay on with the car off, and it should not shut down with the stereo on.
The stock speakers are rated for 25W peak. I've been running 17W RMS to them, but they distort if I turn it up too much. 40W RMS to them would not be useable, but you could get good sound (much better than the factory HU) if you connected the amp and didn't crank the volume up ...
Hope This Helps!!!
