Hi guys,

I have recently installed a Kenwood DNX8120 into my Ford Edge and everything works great.  I need to still install the Boyo rear view camera but I just am not sure about the connetions.

The camera has the RCA input for the stereo and a power and ground cable.  The stereo has a purple rear-view camera cable.  I understand that I need to connect the camera's power to the wire going to the reverse lights to power up the camera.  Would that be the wire that came with the stereo?  If not and I splice the camera into the line going to the reverse lights so I do anything with the wire that came with the stereo?

Thanks for your help!

Kevin

Hey guys,

I contacted Kenwood and here is the correct way to hook up a rear view camera to a Kenwood DNX8120.

- Connect the camera positive to a power source that is always on with the stereo.

- Connect the RCA jack to the back of the stereo and the ground to the ground.

- Connect the purple/white revers wire from the stereo to the reverse lights.

The purple wire will ensure the camera is on the display when you put the car in reverse.

Connecting the camera's  power to a constant power source will allow you to press the NAV button for 2 seconds and the camera will come on.

Hope this helps the next guy!

the purple/white wire will also need to be hooked up to the reverse light wire. that is what tells the radio to switch to the rear cam.

Hey Cobb,

Thanks for the quick reply.  So the power wire from the camera and the purple wire from the stereo both have to be connected to the wire going to the reverse lights.   Correct?

I was thinking the easiest way to do this would be right at the reverse light.  How can I do this if the camera cable has to run to the dash to connect to the stereo?  Can I splice that power from the camera into the purple cable and then run the purple cable to the rear of the car to connect to the the feed to the light?  Would they both get power then?

Thanks for your help!
