I have an 08 Jeep Wrangler 4 door with the factory infinity system. Really want to upgrade the system. The factory is nice but it just doesn't have enough hit and bass. Has anyone else done an install in a 2008 up Wrangler???
Hello rthoward17 and welcome to the Crutchfield forums!
I have a 2007 Unlimited, 4-door. I have upgrade the receiver to the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT and added headrest monitors in the rear. I have replaced the factory speakers with Polk because they are rated for marine use. The sound is better and the Pioneer navigation looks great, but an amplifier is a must in a convertible of any kind. I am going to wait till spring for that. As for the bass, Infinity has a powered subwoofer that is powerful, yet compact. I recommend checking out this model.
Anyone added a subwoofer or amplifier to newer Jeep Unlimited?
Hi Lucy,
I installed the AVIC-Z110BT in a 2009 wrangler unlimited and followed the crutchfield instructions but I have no rear sound? Did you install the system? What am I missing? I have installed headrest monitors as well.

Hey. I just completed my install. It was a mess. I installed an Alpine CDA-9886 head unit, Alpine Type-S 6 1/2 components for the front with the tweeter in the factory locations and Alpine Type-S 6 1/2 coaxials in the sound bar. I also used the factory integration harness so I could use the factory amp and sub. It turned out horrible. The sound was not there at all. So I went back in, bypassed the factory amp and hardwired all the speakers directly to the new head unit and while I was at installed my Alpine Type-R 12 DVC 4Ohm sub to an Alpine MRP-M450 class D amp. I'm throughly impressed. I can honestly say the sound quality it really impressive. Everything is so tight and crisp. They all try to say use the factory integration harness. I will say DO NOT use it to anyone that ask me. I tried it with it and now without it, and without it this is one of the best sounding systems I've ever had. Very pleased with all the Alpine products. As you can tell, I like Alpine. I have my sub in a sealed enclosure and the space in the Jeep is perfect for it. Very tight, clean bass. I mounted the amp under the rear driver side seat, but the only bad part about that is the seat won't completely fold flat now, but the double side will still fold flat. I'm working on a down firing box right now.
It's all good now except I have a bad cable on one of the headrest monitors , Accelevision AXHRP7 kit, (figured it out by a process of elimination). The rear sound is now there. Looks like the original ground and power connections were not that good. I use the "Livingroom" setting for Music. Now everything is soldered and shrinkwraped it sounds great on all speakers including the sub. I completely removed the old steel radio bracket instead of cutting it and gained som room for all the wiring. You can wiggle it out after removing 2 bolts and the 2 top screws. You also have to cut off a couple of plastic OEM wire harness straps. I added pioneers backup camera on a custom bracket peaking through, (flush with), the spare tire top spoke opening and used the high brake light harness on the swing gate to feed the wire under the trim back up front. Installed the camera break-out box behind the glove box and ran the wires to the AVIC Z110BT. The jeep has such crappy rear visability that I highly recomend this. It also makes a great rearview mirror because the wide angle allows you to see other cars in the blind spot in traffic. I'm happy. The Crutchfield,Pioneer, and PAC instructions were all correct and only slightly criptic. Most of the wiring/soldering can be done on the bench and only power,ACC and ground have to be slodered at the car. I would have installed plugs if I thought of it earlier.
Woo Hoo !!!!
Yea I"m looking at backup cmaeras right now. The rear view is horrible. Espescially at night since my windows are tinted. I was thinking of going with a wireless system though and avoiding all the wiring, haha. I'm also looking into running some lights. Daystar makes a nice kit that bolts to the hood hinges and sits on the fenders. Have ya'll ran any lights yet?
