Will the new iPod Classic 160gb work with the DNX7100/DDX7019/DDX8019 via the KCA-iP300V USB cable?  I've got the 80gb iPod Video, but would like to upgrade to the 160gb Classic if it is compatible.  I saw on the DNX7100 Crutchfield Research page that iPod w/Video is compatible, but wasn't sure if that included the Classic since it has a different interface.

ilounge forum review doesn't bode well for video integration in card head units:

"But it does fail to do something simple and fundamental: unlike the fourth- and fifth-generation iPods, it refuses to output video or photographs to an external TV or other device unless it’s connected to something that contains an Apple authentication chip. That means that our in-car video cable can’t play video from the iPod classic."

Can anyone confirm this?

I just bought a Kenwood DNX7100 and KCA-ip300 iPod Cable.  I have a 160 GB classic.  It won't display album art, I just get load error.

Has anyone else encountered this?  I'm going to see if any of my friends have a prior gen iPod I can test.  If that fixes it, I am going to return or sell the iPod Classic.  I bought it purely for car use.

Just to follow up, my friend's 80 GB previous gen iPod displays album art fine.

Annoying, but I guess I have to return the Classic and buy an older iPod.  Guess I'll have to eat the restocking fee.  :-(

How does the other functions work?  Does video work?  How about navigating through?  Is it the same?  Thanks

Here's the official reply from KenWood:

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for contacting Kenwood USA Corporation. As an authorized agent for Kenwood, we are responding to your recent email inquiry.

Since Apple did not provide us with advance copies of their product (we learned about the unit when everybody else did), we do not have any immediate plans.

All items under development are kept secret much in the same way as Apple did. We imagine that a new product is in development.

Well that sucks.  I had one pre-ordered from Crutchfield.  Looks like I'll be cancelling my order..........

I hope Kenwood will release a firmware update to make the DNX7100 support the new iPods.  I can't imagine Kenwood just letting the DNX7100 remain incompatible.

I'll probably get a 80 GB iPod and hang on to my 160 GB for a while and see what Kenwood does.

Kenwood stated to me on the phone that they were blindsided by this and that they are trying to figure something out.  I also received this email from tech support

we are responding to your recent email inquiry.

While the iPod Classic will be able to play audio, it will not display the album
art or videos when used with the KCA-iP300V cable.  We do not have any other adapter
available at this time.

God I hope they fix this...I just bought KVT-719DVD, KCA-iP300V, KCA-BT100, and KNA-G520.  What a f'in waste if I can't use a new iPod with it.

I just got my 160 gig today and put around 70gigs of music on it and it only goes to he "s" on my artist list so it isnt reading t-z. The t-z artists are on my ipod but my 7100 is not seeing them. I hope there is a fix for this. Im calling kenwood tomorrow.

Check out page 10 of the DNX7100 manual. There is a limitation to the folder structure of the USB/DVD/IPOD device ... perhaps you have too many folders?

Max number of directory levels 8

Max number of folders 254

Max number of files per folder 255

Max number of files per playlist 7000

I think that could very well be it. I never thought of that. I hate the thought of going back to my hard drive and opening up all the folders and dragging the songs out into one big one,but I bet thats it.
