I am trying to decide between the size of the TH58PZ700U or the new picture quality of the TH50PZ85U .  I know it is a trade off of quality or size, but do you think the improvements of the new PZ85U will make it worth going with a smaller set? The larger TH58PZ700U model costs $800 more.

Most of what I do is watch blue-ray movies and limited game play on a PS3.  It is a large room and I sit 15 feet away.

Thanks for your input.

At 15' I would be worried about size of the screen.  You might really want to consider the 58" unit.

However, if you wanted: Go to a TV store and find a 50" set.  Walk off 15' and then try to look at the screen.  If you think the pictre size is big enough, than you could consider the smaller set.  I believe that the size will win out though.

i must agree with srothfuss on this one.  i have a 52 in tv and i was originally about 12 ft away and eventually moved my couch forward to be like 8 ft away.  i found that i was losing some detail sitting that far away and now its just perfect.  also people say it all the time but its a really valid point,  " you will never hear someone say i wish i had purchased a smaller tv."  at 15 ft away you wont have any problem with pixelation on the 58 in.

The only other thing I would consider is the The Burn In possibilities using a Plasma with your PS3 If you play a lot of games with static images on them or watch a lot of 4.3 TV with black bars, then consider the 85U I think there is better Burn In Protection on this years models
