    Best Bang For the buck...

I am looking for a good subwoofer amp combination for my 2003 pontiac aztek.  What would be my best options for around 300?

Approximate RMS (or just the most you can get)?

    Dual 10's, Dual 12's, Single 12, Single 10?

With an enclosure and wiring harness for that price, or not.

I guess the hardest hitting.  I'm thinking dual 10's or 12's.  Just the subs and amps for that price.  Not the box.  Thanks

For around that price you should look at the Kicker L5. My friend has one with a kicker Zx450.1 amp (i think). But if you want dual 10's or 12's try looking at Orion. They make some nice subs as well.

I'm not the sub expert, but if I had $300 to spend ...

Best Quality - Alpine SWE-1042 (2 for $99, 500W RMS when they come back in stock), Alpine MRP-M500 amp.

    Best Bang - Kenwood KFC-W3011 (2 for $130, 800W RMS),  Visonik V1201 amp - $160.

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

Both amps only have one channel...do you know of any 2 channel or 4 channel (that could be bridged)  amps that would get the best out of either sets of these subs?  If I got a 4 channel amp and bridged it, it would have to be 4 ohms correct?

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

Why do you want a 2-channel or bridged 4-channel amp?  I could pick some out, but they won't do as well as the ones I recommended, IMHO.

Would the ones you picked out work with 2 subs?  I thought they could only power one?

That's actually the better method to power them!

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

So how many w. RMS is each sub getting if the amp is 500W RMS?
  •  07-18-2008, 2:26 PM 37744 in reply to 37738

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

250W RMS, if the amp is 500W@2-ohms as above and the subs are wired to show a 2-ohm load at the amp as above.  (If you only had one sub, the amp is probably only 250W-300W@4-ohms and the sub still gets the same amount of power (but it's less loud with only one)).

What gauge power and ground cables would I need?

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

Probably 8-gauge, but which amp are you going with?

I'm not sure...I would like to have it loud but don't want to sacrifice quality...

Re: Best Bang For the buck...

I don't have personal experience with these, but my thoughts:

But the Kenwood and the Alpine are pretty good SQ subs from what I have read.

If $300 is a "hard number" for you, go with the Alpine's- it's a better amp and you won't really notice the missing 100W RMS.

OTOH, the Kenwood's handle 800W rather than 500, so if you wanted, you could get that package, and then upgrade the amp to something like a Kicker ZX750.1 (or get that now, but it's an extra $140).

If that gives you perspective on the options.
