    1 ohm stable

looking too put 3 12g5dvc in my truck and was wondering if an amp is 1ohm stable  will it handle any resistance rating between one and two ohm or do i have to get an amp that specifies such

    Re: 1 ohm stable

1ohm stable means 1ohm maximun (hottest)

It will run just fine at any load 1ohm or above.

    Re: 1 ohm stable

1-ohm stable means it won't go into protect mode if it hits a 1-ohm burp with a 2-ohm load, it might not make any power, though.

1-ohm RATED (XXX Watts RMS @ 1-ohm) is what you want.

I don't what that means, Tiger. Your ohm load is your ohm load. It doesn't change. If it's 2ohm at normal volume, it's 2ohm at full tilt. The amp draw, watts, voltage....that stuff fluctuates. The ohms don't....unless a voice coil goes bad.

    Re: 1 ohm stable

I mainly got that from this post.  There was another thread by Carolinasp3 that explained it more clearly (but I don't know where it is).  As I remember his explanation - impedance AVERAGES 2-ohms, but it is not constant with frequency, so if you have two 4-ohm subs in parallel and you are playing loud 30Hz test tones to them, you might hit 1-ohm at the amp - but I'm not sure how or why that works.
