I bought a 50" plasma (50PZ700U) from Best Buy back 12/2007. Well, my TV has shut down on me for good and giving me a 6 blink error code??? This TV has worked flawlessly since day one, and hasn't moved from the stand in 15 months. Its been hooked up to a $250 Monster surge protector and all Monster HDMI cables in the back.

I understand that other people are having similar problems, but how are these getting resolved. I didn't buy the extended warranty because the last TV I bought from Best Buy (55" Mitsubishi) worked perfectly for 7 years (with protection plan) and still going strong. I thought the extended warranty was a waste, but I guess i was wrong.

Does anyone know the typical repair costs for replacing boards on the TV? What has everyone been charged? I am really upset with this whole issue and feel like Panasonic needs to help us out. I really feel bad because I recommended this brand to all my friends....

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

We had this identical thing happen to us just this morning!! So incredibly frustrating since we too are just out of our 1yr. warranty by a few months. We watched our TV as usual last night and then went to bed. This morning my husband goes down to turn on the weather channel and is greeted with the dreaded "7 blinking lights."

I'm hoping everything works out. It seems like this is a trending problem with Panasonic. We love this TV and just purchased it a little over a year a go. I think it's kind of rediculous to have it fail so suddenly. There wasn't any sort of warning either. Worked just fine and then did not work this morning. We contacted Panasonic after doing some internet research and seeing so many problems with the 7 light power supply issue. They just had us fax in our receipt and information and gave us 24hrs before any contact from them would be made. The rep. said first they have to troubleshoot the issue with us over the phone before they can send a tech person out to evaluate. We have our fingers crossed! We love this TV and bought it because of it's high consumer ratings—we never saw anything about this problem until it happened to us.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

This link is no longer valid. Note that it's a few months past its 1-year factory warranty..

After I found all the posts about this problem on the Web , on Sat morning I called the Panasonic "VIERA Concierge" toll-free service number (on the product documentation). The rep instructed me to fax in a copy of my purchase receipt to "Attn: Team 10", with a note on it describing the problem -- someone is supposed to contact me within 72 hours (starting fr today, Monday, not Sat when I called)

Although the rep did not promise that Panasonic would cover the cost of repair, he did acknowledge that it is a known problem. However, it would be up to "Team 10" to determine whether it would be covered, based on the info I faxed in and I guess based on their technician's inspection...

Anyway, other posters on the Web about the same problem (and also just out of warranty) seem to indicate that Panasonic has done the right thing -- I hope they do, 'cuz I've otherwise been happy with Panny products and this TV in particular.

I'll try to post updates as the process unfolds...

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

I have been following this thread on more than one site regarding Panasonic plasma TV sets with their power supply problems. Also, became interested in Crutchfield's handling of this customer (Greg T). I am about to purchase a new HDTV set and had narrowed it down to Pioneer (even though I know they are getting out of the plasma TV business) and Panasonic, or a Sony LCD . Two things have become obvious: Panasonic has a big problem that they are handling poorly and Crutchfield came through, as best they could, for this customer. I will seriously consider Crutchfield as a vendor and have decided not to purchase a Panasonic product.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

I tend to agree. I am not by any means a TV expert.. but have some basic Electronics knowledge and I've been digging around the net and asking people about this problem. I believe 2 blinks may mean either the power supply board in the TV is dead or the DC-DC converter board (which also should include a lot of other components such as the HDMI inputs, Digital Signal Processor units) or both are dead. I had the blinking LED problem (blinking 10 times, pauses... then blinks again) and I believe that it's power supply board. I can't fix this problem myself, I just don't have the needed work station or the Technical confindence in fixing TVs.. but It's probably worth fixing. My opinion is that as long as your Plasma Panel is OK, then it's just replacing one of the defective boards. At any rate, be prepared to spend at least between $250 - $400 in repairs (parts & labor). For whatever it's worth, nearly everyone I talked to who had this problem (even a TV repair person) says that Panasonic Plasma TVs are the best, I tend to agree with this statement.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

Add me to the list. Panasonic TH-42PX60U purchased from Crutchfield. Was working fine until the picture just went out last week. Only difference is that I'm getting 2 blinks, not seven. I went to the Panasonic website..under FAQ's it suggests you unplug the TV and plug it in again... that did nothing. I called the Panasonic Plasma Concierge customer service number, but they just suggested I call a repairman. I spoke with Crutchfield on the phone. The technician was nice enough, but couldn't find any information on the blinking light (???seems strange since I found this blog??). Any help will be appreciated

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

I purchased this exact same model June 2006 and the same exact problem just happened 2/20/09. I guess I'm not so lucky b/c my extended warranty is up and I'm furious. Do you have any idea of what it would have cost to fix the problem on your TV should it not have been under warranty? Who I should call to fix it should the estimated cost of repair be worth it versus buying a new TV? Thanks.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TV's - power supply problem?

Or how about Crutchfield? Any time someone has posted about a problem with a product purchased from them Crutchfield has either taken care of it or prodded the manufacturer or service provider to.
