somehow, someone managed to cause Crutchfield to send an email to one of my addresses Friday, claiming "We think you may have left something behind"

But when I used that address and your "recover password" feature, the response I received unambiguously stated "The address you entered, {redacted} is not in our records."

I find this combination extremely troublesome. There were no previous emails from Crutchfield.com to this address, in the past 6 months at least. How could someone forging my address get so far as to save a cart, without anything being sent to confirm they really had access to the address?

How Do I add a link to my post?

A: There are two ways that you can add a link to your post.

1. Simply include the link (i.e. http://www.crutchfield.com) in the body of your post.

2. You can highlight a word and then click on to insert a hyperlink. This will bring up a pop-up box that will ask for the URL (i.e. http://www.crutchfield.com), Title, and Target. Please set the Target to “Open Link in New Window”. This will help ensure that everyone can get back to the forums easily.

How do I add an image to my post?

A: To insert an image You will want to click on . This will bring up a pop-up box with several options. The main ones are the “Image URL” and “Image Description.” If you need a place to upload a photo you have taken, you can find some nice options at:

Why should I add tags to my post?

A: Tags help everyone be able to navigate the site better. Not only do they improve the search functionality, but the tag clouds can also help narrow down searches. You can see a list of all tags currently on the site here. You can also create new tags which may help describe your post.

Tags and Links

Hey All,

I wanted to ask if you could start including tags and links in your posts.

Tags will be transfered over to the tag cloud and should make finding relevant information a bit easier for everyone. As we get more tags, we may rename a few for better organization (i.e. if we have TVs and Televisions as tags, then we will probably combine those).

Links would be good when you are talking about a specific product. Simply link out to it on the Crutchfield website so everyone can take a look at what you are talking about.

Price Discussion

Allowed:

Discussing the cost of a system. It is fine to discuss how much a sound system will cost, budgeting, and line-item pricing. We only ask that you do all of this using our products and prices.
If we do not carry a product, it is acceptable to provide information, including the price of the product carried by another company.
Discussing the fairness of a price for a service (e.g. is my local audio installation ship ripping me off by charging $400 to install an aftermarket head unit?)

Not Allowed:

Comparing prices between companies. We do not allow price discussions that compare our product prices to that of other companies.

External Linking

Allowed:

Linking to "how-to" sites, articles, etc. that explain ideas, possible setups, and other A/V related discussions.

Anyone else's bogus meter go off with Crutchfield's recent advocacy of WAV and AIFF?

I think this discussion of using WAV or AIFF to get uncompromised sound is so wasteful. There are lossless compression schemes out there that still allow you to reduce the space of your music by half. An open source option that runs on all major computing platforms is FLAC. Instead of advocating such waste, if you are already going way custom like that, why not at least get a clue about best practices while you're at it?

Home system

Until yesterday I was using a Sony STRDE675 with Bose Acoustimass, TV is Mitsubishi DLP. All of a sudden the receiver shows "protect". I have tried everything and even plugged in to different set of speakers, left unplugged, still shows Protect.

I think I need a new receivedr. I liked my STRDE675, had it for 10 yers no problem. I want to buy something comparable or move up. suggestions? thank you./

2007 Honda Accord - Adding amps and subs to stock system

I have added 2 amps, speakers, and subs to my 2007 Honda Accord. I kept my stock radio to power it because I like the look and functionality. Behind the radio I did not have to splice any wires because I bought a plug that fit into my stock radio and another plug that fits into the stock wiring harness. I connected the power, dimmer, and those types of together between the two plugs. I ran the ground wire back to the same location as the amp ground. I converted the speaker outputs to RCA and ran RCA to the trunk, to the amps. From the amps I ran speaker wire back to the front to the stock wiring harness.

This is all working great and the system sounds awesome. I only have one issue that I am wondering if someone can help me with.

The plugs I bought that attach to the radio and the stock harness did not include the two wires for the steering wheel controllers. So that is my only issue with the install. I have searched and I can't find a harness that includes those two wires and I am wondering if anyone knows where to find them? If they don't exist, does anyone know why?

I wanted to check here before I do the alternative, take out the patch plugs and start splicing the speaker wires from the stock harness.

Hi I am wanting to purchase a set of Cvr12 subwoofers rated a 800 watts but dont know which one will work best the 2 ohm or the 4 ohm speaker for the amplifier I currently have It is a Sony Xplod 1000watt 2/1 channel XM-1652Z amplifier.

sattelite HD and Blue Ray

I have a HD sat box and now want to add blue ray, only one HDMI iput on LCD TV. Do i need a switch to run DM cable from both units tp TV?

Hi All,

You may have noticed a few new numbers showing up on the community. One labeled “points” under each members post count, and one labeled “post points” at the bottom of each post. This is our first step in helping to identify strong responses and also creating rankings and levels. Here is a breakdown of how the points work:

Post Factor - Amount each post will be worth                                                                  10
Reply Factor - Amount each reply will be worth for the original post                                     5
Replier Factor - Amount each unique replier will be worth to original post                             5
Rating Factor - amount each rating will be worth for post                                                    2
Favorite Post Factor - amount each post will receive when selected as a favorite                15
Favorite User Factor - amount each user will receive when selected as a favorite              15
Rater Factor - amount each rating will be worth                                                                 1

So, as a an example:

I make a post and receive 10pts. Don responds to this post – he gets 10 points, and I get another 10 points (reply and unique replier). He responds a second time to the same past – he gets another 10 points and I get 5 (for the reply). Ryan rates Don's second post as 4 stars (8 points) for which he gets 1 point for the doing the rating. In addition, Ryan responds back to Dons 1st post for which Ryan gets 10 points (post) and Don gets 10 points (reply and unique replier)

All told I get 25 points

All told Don gets 38 points

All told Ryan gets 11 points

So Don gets the most points for providing an answer that also generates some additional response. However, getting into the habit of rating posts will be the best way to identify strong responses. The ratings is really where the points add up for responses. For example 10 people rating a post as 5 stars would net the original poster 100 points (plus the ten for the post and any points for additional replies). Marking it as a favorite is also a good way to give extra points to a really good post.

As you can see the points are going to add up really quickly. However, you cannot rate your own posts and get points. In addition, Private Messages and certain forums will not count (i.e. Water Cooler). As with any numbers system there are bound to be ways that it could be manipulated. With this in mind I would like to ask that everyone adhere to the honor system, and try not to game the system. In addition, if you see a place where you feel someone is doing this you can click on the report abuse link at the bottom of the post (you can also click this anytime you see a post that violates any of our guidelines or contains incorrect info). This info goes into a special forum for our mods and admins to take care of.

Stop sending catalogs

I hate receiving catalogs in the mail. It is a waste of the earth's resources. If I want to shop I will do so through the online site. I have requested that Crutchfield STOP sending me catalogs through CatalogChoice.org and the request was REFUSED. I want to stop receiving your catalogs, period. How can I make that happen?
