Components do better with an external amp, coaxials with a standard HU only - generally speaking - more below.

The whole thing is bass. I want to get the best bass possible with aftermarket speakers, with a factory stereo for now, (Will upgrade to the Alpine 9886 later) and pssibly an amp to push the speakers a little more then the head unit.

IMHO - the key to good bass without a subwoofer is power. You won't get that with the factory head unit - in fact you are likely to get LESS bass with aftermarket speakers than stock with a factory head. An aftermarket HU will help, but I think you'll ultimately want an amp for the speakers.

I may get Pioneer instead, beings they have a greater range of sound. But probably Alpine beings I will be getting an Alpine head unit and amp for the speakers. If it doesn't really matter and if the Pioneers have greater bass, I'll get Pioneer.

What head unit you get has no effect on the speaker selection. Pioneer tends to produce exaggerated bass - which might be what you are looking for. JL are also good for bass. Infinity is great for highs - I've read mixed comments on bass response.

If you've decided to forfeit having a sub, you better go whole hog on your front speakers. Components will give you better detail. Do a heck of a job installing them, and you might be quite happy with no sub. If your talent allows, maybe do some cutting and squeeze in a nice set of 6.75" separates. A door is a lousy enclosure, full of leaks and prone to flexing and rattling (sounds like my first sub box LOL). A sound deadening material applied to the skin of the door will improve the bass you get out of it. It also reduces road noise, so its worth the effort. Making your car quieter is IMO just as good as making your speakers louder.

You will not have the low bass response you get with a subwoofer. The 6x9's will have more bass than you think, however, they don't really reproduce it well under 120 hz.

Look at the 2 ohm Infinity full range speakers (not components), the ones with the rms rating beginning with a 2. You head unit will power these alot better because they have less resistance to power and they are very efficient.

Use 150 hz bass blockers on the 6x9's and 300 hz bass blockers on the 5.25". Use foam baffles behind all four. You will be able to turn the volume up louder and not have distortion, resonance, etc. You will love the sound and you can add a small powered sub later in the trunk.

Ok, this is a followup to my first question that I got answered already. And I changed my mind on things for a couple reasons.

Originally I was going to run an amp and sub, with new speakers and deck, but I don't need a sub/amp. I transport kids around alot, so having a powerful sub is kind of pointless if I can only use it once in a while. So I have decided to just replace the speakers for now. Later I might add an amp to them, but for now thats not neccessary.

Either the SRS 5 1/4 component with tweeter, or the SRS 5 1/4 2 way speaker?

So, should I get the component setup where I have to mount the tweeters, or should I just get the speaker as a normal 2 way setup? And should I get Alpine or Pioneer? (there will be no sub for bass, and I like bass. ^_^ )
