Essentially they have three purposes:

Protect the speaker from water damage (mainly from dripping down from an open window - if you have water getting up to the bottom of the speaker in the doors you have more problems than baffles will fix.

Reduce resonance by creating a spongy layer between the speaker and the door sheet metal.

Improve bass response by effectively reducing the size of the speaker enclosure - the air space - reviews of this have been very mixed though.

Hope This Helps!!!

Re: Speaker Baffles?

You actually do poke a small hole in the back of these baffles and push your wire through it. If you push the two wires through the hole and then connect them to the two wires on your speaker, then you will not have to push the entire plug on the harness through the hole. Just make a small hole to where you have to force the wire through and it will still stay sealed for you.

Hope this helps.

Speaker Baffles?

I was thinking about experimenting with some, but one question is pondering me the more I look at them.

They're supposed to seal, but, where do I put the wires? I can't just poke a hole and send the harness through, because that would break the seal, and going out the baffle would cause there to be a seal break around the edge of the speaker.

how are you supposed to install these things?
