That's why they have a European version of the unit. If you have to

(It's hard to press preset buttons that don't exist on a unit.)

Here's what you have to do.

Standard and European Tuning Spacing: You may select U.S. standard or European tuning spacing. To switch to/from European tuning spacing:

Hold the source button down to turn the unit completely off (display must be off as well).

Hold down FNC and ATT buttons at the same time.

Press the SRC button, while holding down FNC and ATT buttons.

After the SRC button is pressed, the unit will turn on and you can release the SRC, FNC and ATT buttons.

I tested this on an actual unit and it definitely is what needs to be done.

Re: Alpine 9887 From US FM to Europen FM

Yeah I was thinking the remote as well, since that's the only way to directly access presets on the x-891 and x991 based on the instruction manual. So, with that difference, how would I unlock the 991's European tuning function?

And yes, I realize that I've been spoiled all this time with European tuning for years since I got my Alpine 9853 in '05. The rude awakening was when that HU got stolen and I got a 6900UB to replace it. I would tune my radio to 89.25 when the 89.3 signal got weak to buy myself a few more miles of intelligible listening on that station. I don't know why Alpine hacked the feature for the '07 models, it seems pointless.

Re: Alpine 9887 From US FM to Europen FM

You're right, Tiger JVC does have Euro tuning.
