So, Kenwood unveiled their 2009 head units and apparently a new Ipod/Iphone integration cable (see subject line). I was curious if anyone had any specs on this new cable. Supposedly it works with Iphone (Original and 3G) and will display video along with controlling the ipod functions. My question is will this cable work with an older Kenwood unit like say the KVT 719DVD. Mine still works and I'd rather not drop another 900 bucks just to have the latest model. Thanks for looking into this!
John
Kenwood says it works with 2007-2008 video models.
CF shows it as an option for the KVT-514, but I don't see any other info on CF about it.
You might want to contact either CF's advisors or Kenwood's tech support about it.
Hope This Helps!!!
Anyone else have suggestions?
2002 Ford Focus Sony CDX-GT410u Sony XT-100HD HD Tuner Stock speakers, no amp, no subs
So, I got myself the 301v. With the 300v I was able to play audio through my car speakers from both my 5th gen video ipod and my iphone, but the head unit video screen always said "no connection". Now with the 301v I tried my iphone and it will charge the phone! But alas, nothing through the head unit, not even audio anymore. I still need to test the ipod, if that works I will be content. Would be nice to be able to use it with my iphone, but if not, at least the ipod.
What I really want is a 7in head unit version of my iphone. Think Apple is ready to make car stereos?

It looks like Kenwood released a firmware update yesterday (02/26/2009), claiming to allow the KCA-ip301v to work on 2008 receivers, although I do not see the KVT-719DVD on the list of compatible receivers. http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/
I would be interested to know if the KCA-ip301v with the firmware update allows both audio and video to play through 2008 receivers from an iPhone, or whether it's limited to iPods, audio, etc.?
Well, looking at the link you posted and reading a bit, looks like my model kvt 719dvd isnt listed. I wonder if the numbers represent different countries but are in effect the same unit? If I update my current firmware to this new one, would it even take? And would I be able to revert back to my old firmware in case of a meltdown? I did manage to get the firmware update, but would not be able to get my old firmware unless I opened my dash again and got the serial number. Sould have saved that after the first time!
Any suggestions? Last thing I want to do is brick my stereo!
Thanks!
I found the cable online and bought one. It works perfectly with my dnx8120 and iphone 3g. I get video and audio. Initially I thought video didn't work but I finally realized you have to press the picture (or no picture) icon to start the video. Otherwise all you hear is the audio.
I just installed the DNX5120, hooking the IP301V up to my 5.5g 80gig Video iPod. After installing the firmware upgrade, I'm able to see the contents of my ipod and navigate around, but there is no audio coming through the system. This is also the case with my iPhone - I can navigate through songs and it shows they're playing but no audio comes through.
Any idea on how I can troubleshoot this? The analog connectors aren't hooked up, and I thought simply hooking up the ipod to the cable/usb connector was sufficient. I can't figure out what the issue is though.
I bought the KCA-ip301v cable and hooked it up to my DDX512 with the latest firmware update. I now can play both audio and video from my iPhone 3g (only audio was available when I had the KCA-ip300v cable hooked up). As posted above, you have to press the picture/no picture icon to start the video. I'm very pleased!
so im confused
i have the ddx-512 with a phone 3g and dont know what cable to get now haha
crutchfield says i need the KCA-iP300V
but you all are saying to use the KCA-iP301V with update to get video and sound
also does this allow for full control of the 3g thru the deck?
what does it do when you get a call? or do you have to switch to airplane mode (which blows btw)
please someone confirm and let me know the difference between the 2 cables (cause they look the same )
I have an iPhone 3G with *I believe* the KCA-iP300V. I got my cable from a guy on eBay, sold as an ip300V but it did not work before the Feb 09 update, which specifically mentions new support for the iP301V... so I am not sure what cable I have. I think either cable should work, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
When I get a call on the iphone 3g, it pauses the music and (I have the bluetooth module) the call comes through the speakers as expected. Airplane mode is not required, though the phone will ask if you want to turn it on everytime you plug it in. Charging works, control/data, audio, and video all work as expected. Overall, everything works great after I installed the Feb09 firmware update.
awesome thanks
so i guess we will find out soon about the kca-ip301v since i already bought it :/
ill be sure to update the thread on if it works or not on my deck
thanks for you quick response
alright the KCA-IP301V does not work unless you do the firm ware update
but works perfectly once the update is done and complete!
WHOOOOOOTTTTT! total contorl with no problems!
Hey John.
Agreed on the Apple 7in. head unit! I saw one guy put an appleTV in his car! Anyway, the iP-301V works perfectly with my iPhone 3G (16GB), f/w version 2.2.1, baseband 2.28, Bootloader 5.08. Hope that helps.
