I've NEVER had a problem with any purchase from CF before,  however, this one kind of irks me.

When I installed my radio,  all was well, everything worked, etc...

But,  even then,  when I put a CD in,  it didn't always play on track 1.  Sometimes it would start on track 4, then skip to track 18,  then go back to 15, etc.   It's a minor annoyance,  but it shouldn't be happening. It still does it,  with almost every burned CD i put in it.  Is this defective in some way?

It can't be the CD's,  because they work fine in my DEH-1900MP,  as well as my friends Alpine.

(No,  the RANDOM function is not on, lol)

No problem - personally, I'm pretty ambivalent about it, but the forum is not.

Page 51 and 52 of the manual explain how the unit is SUPPOSED to handle this.

The reason to copy it to a USB stick is so you can see what is going on with the unit without wasting a bunch of CD-R's.

Try to do something that you can tell what is happening -

For example, leave your ID3 tags alone, but name the first track A.mp3 and the second track Z.mp3 and then copy Z.mp3 to the stick and after it finishes copy A.mp3 to the disk.

If it plays A.mp3 first and then Z.mp3, it is using either the ID3 tags, or the alphabetical file names.  If it plays Z first and then A, it is going in the order the files were written to the USB stick.

If it plays A first, erase the stick and now rename track 1 to Z.mp3 and track 2 to A.mp3 and again copy Z to the stick first and then A.  If it plays A fist still, you know it is using the id3 tag info.  If it still plays Z first, it is going in the order played.

(Probably good to write down what everything is.).

This assume it plays CD's via the same method as USB - most decks do but the manual didn't imply that.

BTW - if it works fine with the USB stick, it is probably an issue with the way you burn CD's - particularly for the 3100ub.

Hope This Helps!!!

This has me totally stumped!

You say it's only certain burned cd's, so that makes me think you have some files on the disk that are not in a format the unit can play.  The way your CD burning software organizes the folders could be confusing it, also.  Other than that, I'm scratching my head.

Many decks play files in the order they are written to the CD.

My Sony does.  Kenwoods don't.

I'm surprised the 1900 and 3100 are different, though.

For USB drives, you can use a program called DriveSort to put the files in alphabetical order.

For CD's, I use Nero and it burns alphabetically, but other programs might not.

Also - I name my files as:

01-Title One.mp3

02-Title Two.mp3

and the player sorts on THAT, but the new deck might be sorting on ID3 tag (Track No.), instead, so you might check your tagging in the files.

Hope This Helps!!!

Not sure what you mean by the way they are written to the CD.   My computer burns them the same way you read a to-do list.  First to last.  The CD player *will* play the tracks, however,  I have to manually click until I get to the one I want.

All I do, is download  <Mod Edit: Edited comments re: no conveying illegal or unethical information. Please refer to our Code of Conduct. Thanks.> then add them to WMP,  and burn them off there.  Never been a problem before.  Only acts up on this CD player.

Try copying them individually at first to a USB stick.

If you have access to one, try different burning software for making a CD.  I don't know for sure what order WMP writes in.

I know if you drag and drop a bunch of files with Windows Explorer (File Explorer), it typically copies the last file in the directory, and then the remaining files in alphabetical order.

Whoops!!  Sorry about my error regarding my download source.  Sorry.  :(

Ok, I'll try to copy them to a USB stick.  If it works fine then,  would it be an issue with the way I burn CD's, for this particular device, or the device itself?

Ok,  on the USB,  it plays the way files are copied, not by letter.

Alright - you have a couple of options -

First is to use a different burning software - I can't recall the thread, but I asked about this before I bought my Sony and it seems like one of the replies said WMP could be problematic, but since I used Nero, I didn't pay much attention.

Second - I never play burned CD's anymore.  You can fit 40 some albums on a 2GB flash drive and swap them in and out every three months.  If you go this route, you want to get the DriveSort software and just let it sort by LFN and save when you are done (assuming your files are named logically).
