I am going to buy a plasma tv from Crutchfield within the next few days. I would like to add a sound bar or other external audio to the tv, but I don't want to have to fumble with additional remotes and I don't want to have to power-up the audio separately every time I turn on the TV. Is there any model out there that will allow me to simply attach external speakers and control them like they are part of the TV audio system? Thanks in advance.
What you will need is a self-amplified sound bar with signal-sensing for power on/off (the unit powers on when it senses a signal from the TV, off when there is no signal). Provided the TV has a variable analog audio output and the ability to turn off the internal speakers (most do), that should do what you want. To keep it as simple as possible, you will want to connect your DVD player and other devices to the inputs on the TV as well.
Great Alex. Thanks for the advice. Do you have a suggestion? Something Crutchfield sells?
I don't know how much you want to spend, but this looks like a good unit that meets your requirements.

I haven't heard it, but Polk makes a good product (I use their car speakers and I like them a lot) and the reviews on this unit are good.
