I have that model and every 30 seconds or so it switches from bright background and white letters, then goes to black background and dark letters. The bright background is annoying as hell and the text is hard to read. I want a dark background and bright letters, not vice versa.
It's hella annoying, I don't want a light show. Toggling the dimmer function in the settings doesn't help, neither does changing the display theme.
Thanks.
That is a secondary "demo mode" for in-store displays. Go to your settings menu, and turn the "Reverse Mode" off.

I believe you can also press the 5 preset button while it is off. You hear a confirmation beep if it worked. What on earth is that reverse mode for?

Which question are you asking?
If you are asking why it has a mode-swapping demo mode - it is so people can see it in the stores and say "That's cool" without digging into the manual. For instance - my radio can have either green or red buttons, but there is no demo mode that swaps them, and my dash lights are green, so if I saw the radio in the store with red illumination and hadn't read up on it, I wouldn't buy it.
If you are asking why anyone would want the dark letters on blue instead of the blue letters on black - I suspect it would be easier to read in really bright light. I also partly didn't get a Pioneer b/c the blue display was virtually unreadable with the blue-filtering sunglasses I prefer. I suspect it might be better for that.
Personally, I saw a JVC at BB the other day with something like 32 different display colors - some of them I can't imagine ever choosing, but I'm all for giving people options and letting them choose what they want.
Hope This Helps!!!

That would make total sense if there was a display option to continually stay in the high brightness mode. It is a struggle to read in direct sunlight. If that's possible, i haven't figured out how to do it. On mine, selecting "Reverse" makes it flash from bright to dim at given intervals, which is more annoying than the kid kicking the back of my seat.
Okay, in that case, it is pretty pointless. Is there an option with the background picture modes that gives reverse text? (Been a while since I've actually seen the unit.)
