When my IVA-W505 loads the MP3 files from my USB  flash drive, it has an annoying feature where if it encounters tracks from the same album that have different artists, the IVA-W505 creates a separate album for each track.

For example, if an MP3 album named "1970's Hits" contains the tracks "More Than A Feeling" by Boston, "Time" by Pink Floyd, and "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, the IVA-W505 will create three albums named "1970's Hits", each album containing one of the songs listed above.  This is a real pain because while there are three albums named "1970's Hits", I can't play the whole album at once because there is no album that contains all three tracks.

The IVA-W505 allows you to create a playlist of all tracks in the album of the track that is currently playing, but when I try this for the album described above, the IVA -W505 creates a playlist consisting of only the track that is currently playing.  Apparently, the IVA-W505 can distinguish between the multiple albums it creates with a common name.

Has anyone found a workaround for this?  Thanks.

Every manufacturer is going to sort things differently and unfortunately what works one place, may not work in another. If changing the tags is not an option, then there's not much else you can do.

I haven't run into this with an IVA-W505 (haven't used one), but I have seen it with other MP3 players (my Zen Mosaic).

It has to do with the ID3 Tags -

What will probably work ...

On Album "1970's Hits", change all the Artists Tags to "Various Artists" (or  "1970's Hits" so you don't have multiple "Various Artitsts" artist sorts on different albums.  If you want, you can change the Title Tags to "More Than A Feeling - Boston".

The drawback is you may have different tags for your IVA-W505 than you have for your PC or iPod, or other MP3 player.

Hope This Helps!!!

Anyone else have suggestions?

Thanks for your reply.  I understand and agree with everything you said.  Unfortunately, changing the tags in dozens of MP3 files in only one copy of my MP3 library isn't an acceptable solution for me.  Sigh.

If the IVA-W505 supports or reads custom playlists, that might be an option for you as well.

I actually ran into a slightly different problem with my Zen Mozaic, which is why I came up with the fix above ...

It would correctly list 1970's Hits as one album (I think), Let's say the only Boston song I had was on that album.  It would show Boston as an artist with one album with only one song on their album - so I had dozens of artists that I only had one song by ....

Hope This Helps!!!
