I have a JVC KD-AR880 head unit in my 2003 VW Passat. The AM reception doesn't work at all. It hasn't worked in a few months, but I have never really gotten around to pulling it out to see what the problem is due to that I don't listen to AM reception that much in favor of the other multiple sources I have instead (CD, CD Changer, SIRIUS, USB, etc.). I would like to get it working again in order to maybe be able to listen to some desired AM stations & certain news/talk/weather programming in my area.
Here is the manual via Crutchfield's site:
JVC KD-AR880 manual
On page 4 of the "installation Guide" section, it shows the wiring diagram of the unit. I'm thinking the "blue w/ white stripe" wire is the antenna related connection & the one I want to check to make sure it is hooked up to the antenna adapter. Is this probably correct?
You should have gotten this antenna adapter. Connect the Blue wire on the adapter to the Blue/White wire on the JVC harness and you should get your AM reception back.

The blue/white wire would normally be connected to the power antenna or an OEM electronic antenna booster, but I don't show your car having either one.
What you really want to check is the main antenna cable into the rear of the radio, although my AM reception has been terrible lately, so it might just be atmospheric or high-tension wires near the road ....
Hope This Helps!!!
Anyone else have suggestions?

Yea, I remember installing that antenna adapter and is about what I figured was gonna be needed. I think it might of accidently gotten disconnected when I had an amp professionally installed. I should of gone back to the shop to have it possibly reconnected, but didn't & it has been over year since that occurred. I wasn't to worried about the AM reception since I didn't listen to it at all at the time, but still probably should of had it taken care of. I know, shame on me.
Anyway, will it be a hassle pulling the radio back out when I have all kinds of connections back there? Amp, SIRIUS, FM antenna, speaker wire, etc. I originally installed the head unit myself, but wasn't sure about how it will be now. Or should it not be too hard? Any recommendations when pulling it back out?
As long as you still have the removal keys, it shouldn't be very difficult depending on how much slack they left in the harnesses.
Just label any wires you have to disconnect so you know how to hook them back up.
