Alright so I've done some research and I realize that these 2 alarms are made by the same company and basically use the same technology... But my question is my car has a python alarm already and i would like to get a 2 way pager remote start with all the goods.. Should I go with a new viper alarm or what do you guys think?

I have the Python 872 two way remote start, keyless, and security, and love it. The very very similar Viper 5701 would also work well; I just received a better discount on the Python and like the key fobs better.

Did you have any specific questions about upgrading, or just general quality questions about Viper versus Python?

they are gonna be the same alarm with a cosmetically different remote. i just installed the new viper 5902 to replace my 791xv, so that i can utilize the Viper Smart Start Module for iPhone integration once it is released to small industry shops. i work as an installer for an authorized viper dealer, and they viper and python are gonna be the same. which remote do you like better?? that should be the alarm you go with.

Well i've been looking into the viper 5901 lately and really like that design, i want something that is nice and stable not cheap! Should i go with the viper?  I'm only asking because my car has a python simple alarm right now.. would it be easier to install a 2 way remote start python so it can use the existing wiring?

the wiring will be the same between the 2 new alarms you're looking at. like i said, identical except for the remote. whenever i do alarm replacement, i remove the old alarm entirely and reinstall the new one with all of it's wiring. reason being that the 10 pin harness on the alarm you have now has an ignition wire, where as the alarm you will be installing does not have that wire, it is actually part of the parking light wiring, so you're gonna want to redo it entirely.

are you doing the install yourself? most viper dealers will not sell the alarm without install, and directed (viper) does not warrenty items bought online. if you plan on doing the install yourself, let me know if you have any questions during the process

heck yeah. if you are in no hurry, i would wait for the update to come out. they are changing the brain layout to match the 5902. it really streamlined my install when i did my 5902. now that they have worked out the bugs, the 5901 is an awesome alarm.
