i was wondering if this sub is worth going for? its a power acoustic 12 inch sub.. 500RMS here is the model number : PW212M
seems to be good and ive heard good things about the company but is this specific sub good? and can it take 500RMS from an alpine mrp-m500? thanks alot :D also what price should i buy it for?
JVC KD-AVX44, jl audio 12 inch W1v2, alpine mrp-m500 , JBL GT5-652 fronts, audiobahn dub269's in rear deck, 4 gauge kit, voltage displaying fused distribution block:D .. all wired on my own. :D
I've only been around Power Acoustik amps, and with those they were a mixed bag. That particular model you listed seems to have a fair amount of good reviews, so it may not be a bad gamble. However, I see you supposedly have a couple Type S subs already. Truthfully, I would believe the subs you already have would perform better in every way. May I ask why you're interested in this PA sub?
As for weather it can handle the power from an Alpine MRP-M500, it should. It's a dual 4 ohm sub with an RMS handling of 500, which is exactly what the amp is rated at on a 2 ohm load (although it's sure to put out a fair amount more power). Although, PA has been known for over rating their stuff. The question here is quality, will this sub put out good quality sound and perform for years to come? I don't know, it may, it may not. As for how much I'd spend on one, I think they were cheap like around $60, but they've been discontinued, so even if it's new I likely wouldn't pay over $50 shipped.
Anyone else have some insight?
as for the alpine type s.. they were about 7 years old! and i sold them about 1 year ago.. not even.. then went to a 15inch MA audio competition sub that blew due to not being able to take even 300 RMS! so.. im left with no sub.. and it really sucks! :( .. thus why im looking at this sub..
7 years?! Those were old school.
MA Audio is another brand that tends to be a mixed bag IMO. You could end up in the exact same boat if you buy the PA sub. Might I ask why you're willing to spend $200 on an amp, but looking at a cheap woofer? The highest quality amp in the world can't make a junk speaker sound very good. If you were willing and able to spend the cash you could go for the two for one deal Crutchfield is having on the the Alpine Type E SVC subs, (2) 10" for $130 or (2) 12" for $150. Just a thought.
unfortunatly i live in canada.. i got on these forums just because i like them better then the canadian site.. otherwise i would go for the 2 12s here. also shipping would be costly i believe?
Well, Crutchfield Canada has the Alpine SWE-1242 for $70 each and free shipping (at least for today). Sure, they're last years model, but there's nothing wrong with that. I've actually heard a dual 10" setup of the SWE-1042 and I at least felt they were pretty good. This can only lead me to believe the 12's would be just as good if not better. Also, just looking at specs, I noticed the older models require less volume in their enclosure, this may be very important if you have little space to mount them. Their sealed box volume is 0.8-1.7 cu. ft. vs. 1.0-2.0 cubic feet. Sadly, there is no specs recommended for a ported enclosure, so they may not perform well if put in one (if this matters to you).
ok so.. i got my new setup! :D alpine MRP-M500 with a nice 12 inch jl audio sub in a ported box! :D it pounds harder then any of my past subs and sounds just wonderful.. i get the gains by hear and with a dmm :D got it going perfectly! :D although i want some new 6.5's that have better mid bass i have jbl gt5-652. all the speakers are running off CEA 20RMS from the HU
here are the links :D :

amp: Alpine-MRP-M500
all speakers are poly-filled including doors! unfortunatly no dynamat yet :( doors need it!
i also have a 4 gauge amp kit for power along with professional triple shielded rcas :D
Glad you found something in your budget. I don't like speaker manufacturer's enclosures, but the exception is JL. They really seem to put in the effort. For mid-bass, the sound deadening will make some improvement. If you're like me, you'd rather wait til you have new speakers and do both upgrades at once. If that sounds like you, save up for a set of component speakers. They should be amplified, but the woofers are of better quality as well as the tweeters and x-overs. Safe to say that components are superior in every way, except power requirements. If you want serious mid-bass attack that will put even top components to shame, consider a small subwoofer mounted in the front of your car.
haha!!! good one J RO!.. as i was thinking that myself! the old sub could handle some of the mid bass well but this one just cant! i was thinking an 8 inch woofer somewhere.. bandpassed.. so have the fronts HP at 120-150 sub at about 80 and then an 8 inch bandpassed from 80-150. you think it would be a good investment? also how would i do this? one of those outboard EQ's? i have my old amp that does awesome for midbass! just need a driver to power it up to and a way to bandpass it! :D but im loving this system! :D also.. sorry about the non crutchfield links.. couldnt find any links that were from this site! :( also thanks for the suggestion :D
how does this device look for bandpassing?
CR79G - Pyramid® Multi-Channel Electronic Crossover Network
i doubt i can mention price here..?
edit! : i found another solution .. set my low pass on the amp to say about 150HZ then use a bass blocker at 80HZ ?
Not crazy about anything by Pyramid.
No point mentioning price on it, but you could have since CF doesn't carry it, but you can't post links to competitors.
The other solution should work, but bass blocker's are limited in how much power they handle - likely less than your sub amp puts out.
I think ideally you want something like active crossovers, but you could do it with F-mods, (probably the 70Hz HPF in your case).
Hope This Helps!!!
2002 Ford Focus Sony CDX-GT410u Sony XT-100HD HD Tuner Stock speakers, no amp, no subs
Thanks TigerHeli as those were what i were looking for! :D seems like that will do the job just perfect.. and yea.. even im not a fan of pyramid pyle and other such brands.. no offence but not even sony before.. but they have improved greatly and i would buy from them.. how do u like your reciever from them?
I don't think a complex active crossover is called for in your situation. You could send the HU sub output to a simple 2-way electronic crossover, like THIS KICKER MODEL, and the HP would actually be a bandpass for a small sub. Avoid the F-Mod idea. It will take some adjustments to blend the 2 subs together, and you will want to have the ability to change the crossover frequency after you get it playing. If you use an F-Mod, you're stuck with a fixed frequency and it's just guesswork as to what the ideal frequency will be. I do this in my vehicle, and my front subs are HP at 60hz, and the rear subs are LP at 40 hz. The reason it's not the same cut-off for both is there is overlap of the 2 sub systems at 50hz, so there would be a huge peak in response at that frequency were it not filtered from both subs.
Take J-Ro's advice on the crossover over the F-mods - very well-made points.
shak:no offence but not even sony before.. but they have improved greatly and i would buy from them.. how do u like your reciever from them?
Errrmn - loaded question ....
Not sure how best to answer this so it will be understandable - maybe I can say not much has changed from my HU comparison thread.
I constantly read how Sony is a "Wal-Mart" brand - guess what - so are Pioneer and Kenwood in some cases. I bought the Sony b/c it had the features and price I was looking for. I'm not that fussy, but after owning and listening to all of them, I don't think it has the same SQ as say Pioneer or Alpine, but I'm more of an enthuiast than an audiophile. It was worded well on another forum where "someone would think Sony is great UNTIL you own an Alpine or Pioneer". Basically, Sony is somewhat middle of the road to me at this point. For reference - I would likely look at JVC if I were replacing it (not the El Chameleon, but one of the newer vario-color units - although I also consider JVC middle-of-the-road sound quality from (years ...) past experience - no offense, either). Also - everyone has some pre-dispositions based on experience as well - I haven't owned Blaupunkt, but have read good and bad about them. I tend to not like Dual - but have read great reviews about them - might like or not be crazy about it if I actually bought one. (And while you can get a feel for the unit from the store display, you can't REALLY evaluate it until you've had it installed for a couple of months or more).
If you are seriously considering Sony, you might want to read through my in-depth review here. The only things I think that have really changed since then are - I'm a bit disappointed in HD radio in general - but that's not really the Sony tuner's fault - I discuss that here, and after two years of usage, the DISP button no longer pops out evenly, but it still works fine. (There was a comment somewhere on BCAE1 about using the remote rather than the faceplate buttons, b/c the remote is easily replaced and the faceplate buttons are generally poor quality in all brands, but I unwisely ignored it.)
Hope This Helps!!! (And sorry I got so long-winded on what should have been a simple question).
no no.. its fine .. thats the kinda thing i was hoping to hear.. thanks.. now the new question is.. what midbass driver should i get? im thinking sealed enclosure csaue its gonna handle about 80hz-150hz but which driver?
