onstar very loud with amp

I have a chevrolet silverado pickup and when i wired in the amp the radio sounded fine but when i when to use onstar it was loud enough to be heard for 3 city blocks. what did i do wrong, do i need some kind of interface?  any help is appreciated...... my radio and speakers are all stock.....

Yep, the new GM's with OnStar are a pain.

There is a GMOS interface (runs about $130 or 50% off with a $130 or more head unit from CF) that you are supposed to use for this.

Basically, your options are:

  • Replace factory head unit and add GMOS interface.
  • Keep factory head unit and add RF 3Sixty or JL CleanSweep.
  • Add GMOS interface, but modify wiring and add external speaker just for OnStar.
