Hello ,
I recently bought my first home theater system, and just thought i would get a second opinion before the return deadline comes. I thought I would post what I bought and see what more experienced members thought. Keep in mind I am a college student with limited income, so I'm not looking for a $5000 system, however I am willing to spend more if it improves anything noticeably.
Polk Audio
---CS10 Center Channel Speaker
---T15 Bookshelf speakers
---PSW110 Subwoofer
Pioneer
VSX-519V-K Reciever
I was just wondering if I got a good deal on these 4 components for $650.00, or if there are much better alternatives. (p.s... If i keep everything as is, I plan on adding 2 Polk Audio TSi-300 or TSI400 standing speakers)
Looks pretty good to me. If you are going to go with the TSi-300 or TSI400 speakers for your L+R are you planning to use the T15's as surrounds? If so, you may want to consider a purpose built surround speakers instead.
I intended to use them as surrounds... however what difference is their between the shelf speakers and purpose built surround speakers?
Also If I were to consider upgrading the receiver to a 7 channel, would I want to keep them and add surrounds, or get 2 pairs of the purpose built surrounds?
I would recommend buying the TSi400's, the TSi CS10 Center, the PSW110 Sub and the Pioneer reciever first. [if it's what your budget allows]
By purpose built surrounds, Alex is refering to something similar to these... Polk Audio OWM3
Buy the best front speakers you can afford. Even in college (or not) and on a budget you can get a great package for not much outlay in funding. If you have to do it in installments, save the surrounds for last.
