When the technician did his repair work, did he inform you of the cause of the failure?  A root cause to the problem I mean?  Not that I am implying you have done something wrong, I just wonder if there is something that can be learned for the future to help with prevention.

Anyway, keep me updated...  I'd like to see where this goes.

Hello,

I posted a couple of weeks ago about my adventures with Panasonic repair and I thought I would post an update.

First off, the TV has not been fixed yet.  So for those of you keeping score at home I owned my Panasonic plasma for 5 months, and it has been broken for 1 of those.  The repair group has been to my house 4 times, finally taking the TV back to the shop on March 28.  "Need to order a new part."  I followed up with the repair group last week, the part is still on order.  I called into the Panasonice support line, received the usual pleasentries and was promised that a manger would call my cell phone of April 4.  Nothing.

Does anyone here have the contact information for the head of Panasonic support?  I obviously need to escalate this beyond the call center and could use some help.

 Thanks for letting me vent,

Eric in Denver

Ask the support rep (nicely I might add) for the supervisor.  Write down the name of said supervisor and then ask for his assistance in an update on your product.  Call back - ask for the same supervisor (from your note pad) and try again.  Getting the same person on the horn reduces all run around.

This works for Computer problems very well and should apply to this format as well.  But remember to be nice... screaming gets you nowhere.

Hi,

I guess my adventures are just beginning. I purchased the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U two weeks ago.  I'm having the 10 blink problem, but it seems to only happen if I turn the TV off and then try to turn it back on again in a short amount of time.  So far I've been able to work around the problem by doing the following:  First I remove the hdmi cable.  Then I hold the power button until it stops blinking.  Wait a few second and then turn the TV back on. Finally I plug the hdmi cable back in. (Is it bad to be plugging in an HDMI cable with the power on?)

I contacted Panasonic.  They took me through a factory reset procedure but the problem persisted.  I turn it off, and try and turn it on again and I get nothing but 10 blinks.  (Unless I go through the painful procedure as outlined above.) They have agreed to send out a technician.  I'll let you know how that goes.

Hello,

I was lucky to come accross this panasinic repair manual. It describes all LED blinking flashing  red diode: http://www.pasctraining.panasonic.com/pass/elearn/files/Plasma/070608_10th_Gen_FlowCharts_070607-P.pdf

It tells you what each number of blinks means, how to analyse it and repair it.

Good luck! (I have the 7 blink error).

Hey,

I have the Th-42pd60U panasonic plasma. 13 months after I bought it the tv wouldn't power on and had the 8 flashing code. Well low and behold 6 months after having it fixed I'm having the same problem.

Anyone know where I can get a repair manul? Or have any insight as to what I should do?

I found a manual on Panasonic's web site that calls this a "Symptom's and Cures". Maybe it can help.

I just bought a Panasonic TH-42PZ800U and had the same problem. 10 blinks and the TV would not start. Then after some trial and error I solved the problem!

Here is my (apparent) observation and solution:
I had only one input into the TV, which was my HTPC connected via a DVI-to-HDMI cable plugged into the Panny's HDMI 1 slot. *IF* the HTPC was already on, then the Panny would have the blink of death. *BUT* if the HTPC was off, the Panny booted fine (assuming I cleared the blink of death first by powering off the HTPC, unplugging the TV, and replugging the TV back in with the HTPC still off).

My solution was to move the HDMI cable from slot 1 to slot 3. After making this one change, everything worked as it should. No more 10 blinks of death. I could even leave the HTPC on and turn on the TV last, and it still worked. Tried this 10 times, worked 10 times.

I don't know if this will solve other people's problems, but I hope it at least provides some clues. I wonder if this is a fundamental circuit design flaw on the part of Panasonic, rather than a "bad batch of parts" problem.

Thoughts? Feedback?

Unfortunately I have to add my name to the long list of disappointed Panasonic customers. I purchased a plasma TH-42PX60U in November 2006. I now have the problem where the Power LED blinks 5 times repeatedly. To make matters worse I purchased this TV at crutchfield.com. A service advisor at crutchfield recommended that I contact a Panasonic service technician. Even if I purchased an extended service plan as advised above, I still have to pay for a technician to come to the house (as well as take time off of work). Also, the TV weighs 60 lbs so transporting the TV to a repair shop is not an option. What a waste of money.

I am very sorry to hear of your trouble with the TV set.

Having the extended warranty should cover your repairs and make the whole matter trouble free.  Who is the warranty provider?  That is where I would be focusing my energy.

Just wanted to say thank you! You're solution worked for me. I had a HTPC over HDMI and when it was plugged into HDMI 1 and turned on, I got the 10 blinks of death. By plugging into HDMI 2 or 3, the issue went away. Now I know what to have the store test when we take the unit back.

Is it safe to say this can all be avoided if only using a computer connection in the side/front port, or not connecting a computer at all? I'm dead set on buying a 46pz85u in the coming weeks, but would feel retarded if this happened to me even with all the warnings.

I just bought the TV yesterday and have the same 10 blinking light turn on problem when using HDMI 1 or 2. But when I use HDMI 3 I had no problem.  The only different is HDMI 3 came default with label "Game" and the other 2 is empty (blank).  Just caht with the Panny tech,  he's recommend that assign "On" label to the other 2 HDMI inputs and try again.  I will try when I get home tonight.  If anyone have the same problem and have access to the TV now can try it out and post the result.

You can add another owner of a TH-42PX60U to the disappointed list.  We purchased ours in January of 2007.  The kids were watching it this evening and they said that it just turned off on them.  It was plugged into a surge protector.  I called Panasonic and all they could do was find a local repair shop for me.  Mine was not flashing any lights at all.  It would do nothing.  I am getting used to the same repair shop fixig my Panasonic electronics as they have aslo repaired my DMR-E80H DVD Recorder.  Hopefully Panasonic wil resolve this issue as I was getting ready to buy a 50" for the basement but I am ready to try a different brand.  Looking back the extended warranty might have been a good idea but I don't think that people shouldn't have to pay more money for what is most times piece of mind.  I will try and post the resolution.
