Hi all from newbie

I just placed an order two pairs of Pioneer speakers

- Pioneer TS-D170R 250 watt, 60 watt nominal power handling, 4 ohms

- and Pioneer TS-A741P 250 watt, Subwoofer • Tweeter, 50 watt nominal power handling, 4 ohms to replace my factory speakers

My question is, do I need an amplifier to run them or “just ok” with factory stereo unit?

If do need, what kinds of the amplifiers to require more power for peak performance?  ( I don't want subwoodfer yet )

Please advise.

Thanking in advance

ps: Soft rocks, pop, jazz . . . are my listening type of music

If I am understanding you correctly, and you have one pair of the Pioneer TS-D170R speakers and one pair of the Pioneer TS-A741P speakers, then you can run them off a receiver. However, since they a listed as handling more power, you can get better sound with a 50 watt x 4 channel amp.

If you have a different setup in speakers that what I listed, then please let me know as you may need to get an amp.

I hope this helps!

As Paul said - those speakers are generally rated at 2-50W RMS.

A "factory" receiver may be as low as 5 W RMS.  A good aftermarket receiver will be around 16-25 W RMS.

They will sound okay with the factory receiver, good with an aftermarket one, and of course, better with a 50-W x 4 amp.

You could always try them with the factory receiver and if you don't like the sound (most likely with low power the bass will get "muddy" when you turn the volume up), you can add an amp later.
