so right now i have 2 audiobahn AW1200N's, and im sick of them. theyre loud, but imo the sq sucks and they dont actually hit very hard. theres no punch to them... theyre in a ported box right now, but ive had them in sealed too and it still wasnt great. i have a kole audio KX2 1920 watt amp (440x2 rms), if someone thinks there was a problem with the amp please let me know. but what im looking at now is just getting a couple new woofers. im looking to spend about $100 for a pair of 12's, and heres what im looking at so far:

MA Audio MA120XE - $110, all the MA reviews say they hit pretty hard

Hifonics HFi12D4 - $80, reviews say theyre loud, deep, and clear

MTX T4512-44 - $110, ive always been an mtx fan, but these lower end ones look like they might not be so great

what do you guys think of these subs? i'm looking more towards SQ, but i want alittle thump too. the box i have is a large ported box, but i also have two smaller sealed ones, so that is flexible. but which do you guys think is the best? and are there any other good value quality brands i should check out?

i actually just went out and played with my system, and got my amp to start clipping with the HU volume pretty low, db boost at 0, and the gain at max. i also looked up my subs and noticed they were 700 watt rms (i totally forgot what it was, ive had them for a couple years now), so i think the problem may be that im underpowering them? im going to rewire to get a higher resistance to see if i can get it to stop clipping.

"gain on max"

Not good. Turn it all the way down, then turn up your headunit volume to 75-80% , then start turning the gain back up until it starts to distort.

yea i know thats how your supposed to do it, but i was mostly just tinkering with it. I was also in the middle of a neighborhood on fathers day evening with family starting to arrive... so i wasnt trying to beat down my block lol. i just wanted to mention that the amp started clipping... however i will tune it properly tomorrow.

btw i saw ur install pics.. that was pretty sweet. i sent it to my buddy who got a new truck a couple years ago and hasnt put a system in it yet because theres no room behind the back seat ('07 chevy colorado). but i like your solution... take OUT the back seat lol.

I think that you need to up your budget a little if you want good woofers. I would rather spend 200 on one sub thats higher quality then buy two subs that aren't as good.

Either way thats a pretty low budget if you want some good SQ...

If you are looking for some true SQ with that budget then I would recommend a Fi SSD 12, or Q 12. If you want somewhere more in the middle, then the Type R would be a great choice. Either way, you are going to get a much better quality sub than if you only spend $100 or less on one.
